Russian missiles for Modi’s India: why China and US need not worry

India
Russia’s supersonic 400km range S-400 missiles on Indian soil should worry neither the Chinese with their hypersonic missiles, nor the Americans on the other side of the planet (“When Putin’s Russia arms India, China and the US keep one eye open”, October 4).

The air defence system will most likely be deployed on India’s border with Pakistan. We, in Russia, know very little about what is called a glacier war on the highest battleground on earth there, with both armies frequently engaging in artillery duels involving mortar shells and gunfire.

However, as stopping a Pakistani shell with a Russian missile is clearly a game that is not worth the candle, India must have bought the S-400 to benefit from its highly sophisticated radar as an early warning system. And the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s game is “forewarned is forearmed”.
