Carrie Lam shows she will keep the faith: in herself, in Hong Kong and in the country

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has said she is not afraid to tackle issues left unresolved by predecessors, and she offered solutions in her policy blueprint. She also listed three beliefs : belief in her own ability to build a better city; belief that Hong Kong people would seize development opportunities offered by Beijing; and belief in the nation’s support.

As an ordinary Hong Kong citizen and a Christian, it makes me glad to see Ms Lam forging ahead. As a Catholic, she must be familiar with God's word in the Bible. She will understand the advice in Ephesians 4:1: “Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called”.

Finally, I would like to share with her and her Executive Council the words of the legendary American journalist William Allen White: “I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday, and I love today”. Besides, we all know that Rome was not built in a day.
