Fans of Lisa, a Thai member of K-pop girl band Blackpink, have lashed out over a racist comment posted about the star on social media.

The controversy came after the comment posted by a South Korean K-pop fan about the singer’s appearance went viral. It read: “With make-up on, she totally looks like a Russian elf … but with darker hair and no make-up, she looks like any average Thai woman.”

Several Thai netizens were enraged at the remarks. A Thai TV channel also put the spotlight on the issue, saying Lisa has been facing racism in South Korea.

Blackpink played in Bangkok from January 11 to 13.

Bambam from Got7 said Lisa was respected in South Korea.

Reporters even asked Bambam, a Thai member of K-pop boy band GOT7, what he thought of the controversy during a press event in Thailand on Sunday. The singer replied that Lisa was widely respected by people in South Korea.

In the wake of the controversy, K-pop fans have been attempting to cheer up the star on social media by adding the hashtag #RespectLisa on her posts.
