Taipei-based Leslie Sun is the founder of Sunset, a former experimental retail space that now acts as the production office of her creative agency, Sunset Projects, which focuses on art and design. A passionate art collector, Sun, who’s often seen at art fairs around the world, is one of Taiwan’s most stylish young women.

“I’m preparing for [art fair] Frieze London. As most of my travels revolve around art fairs and gallery or museum openings, I thought I’d share part of my packing list and how I usually dress for these events. My style has recently been about West Coast [Los Angeles] street style meets classic Parisian.

It’s crucial to be in comfortable clothing at fairs, as there is a lot of walking and the days are long. I usually go with trainers and loose pants, so at 4pm when I feel like I’m about to collapse, I won’t also suffocate from anything too tight on my body.

This particular outfit is pretty standard: white T-shirt with a pair of reworked denims I got from RTH in Los Angeles. It’s my favourite place to shop for jeans if I want the contemporary punkish look. I tend to stay away from things that are too trendy. They really do their own thing at RTH. A vest from Chanel’s recent Métier d’Arts collection pulls the look together.

This is an outfit that can take me through the day and into the evening. I dressed the Chanel jacket down with a hoodie and a pair of wide-legged men’s trousers from a Taiwanese brand called Necessity Sense. Their stuff is made with the best fabrics and the tailoring is amazing. They only have menswear now, but luckily I fit into their small sizes.

This is something I would wear in the evening, like to a fancy dinner or an art party. It never gets too fancy in the art world, so I try to not overdo it. The crocheted jumpsuit is by Bless, and depending on the weather I’ll wear it under different things. I love it under this oversized sweater by my friend Eugene Ong’s brand Ongoing Knits, as it gives it a little of that “couldn’t be bothered” look. But the Céline boots and Chanel bag dress it up. I love contrasts. I got both the jumpsuit and sweater from my absolute favourite shop in the world, Mameg, based in Los Angeles. They always have the coolest stuff that you don’t see anywhere else.

I often mix work with play, so if I decide to squeeze in a post-art fair holiday, a pair of linen pants, some white vans, and a good jacket does it all. The jacket is part of a two-piece from Céline’s summer collection. It has a white trench coat attached over it, but I like to wear the two separately. Linen pants are from Crista Seya, and the straw hat is from Kamilavka.

I collect old publications from the 1930s and 1940s. I have a background in graphic design, so I can be a geek in a way. These Harper’s Bazaars are from the late ’30s when Alexey Brodovitch was art director. Some of my other favourite things of the moment are a Chanel pilot hat brooch, sunnies by Spektre x Yun Yun Sun, Molecule 001 (my signature “top coat” scent), and a bag by Isaac Reina that I travel with.
