FARE British gastropub AMBIENCE The two-storey British-style pub overlooks Victoria Harbour from the Tsim Sha Tsui East waterfront. The alfresco setting is ideal for Hong Kong’s cooler weather, and there are plenty of seats outside. COST HK$400 for three-courses without drinks. WHO TO BRING Family and friends.

TURN-ONS We like to go to London House when we are craving good, old English fare. And it always delivers. For starters, we skip the ones we can have in most other western restaurants in Hong Kong like the burrata, and go straight for Ramsay’s twists on English pub grub, like the quail Scotch eggs and sausage rolls with barbecue sauce, which hit the spot. For mains, we again go for the classic English plates – although the menu offers a tempting selection of grills such as lamb rump, smoked gammon ham steak with pineapple – which I want to try next time. We went for the fish and chips with crushed peas and tartare sauce and traditional shepherd’s pie with onions, carrots, potato purée and Parmesan cheese. It is arguably the best shepherd’s pie this side of London. For dessert, it is only ever sticky toffee pudding, which is sweet with sticky caramel, moist and moreish. The bread and butter pudding served with coffee ice cream is not to be missed. TURN-OFFS The toilets are a hike through the mall, but they are clean and rarely too busy. DRINKS We love the milk shakes, especially the Boozy caramel with spiced rum.
