Game of Thrones might not be coming back until 2019, but the hit fantasy drama series is keeping the hype well and truly up with bits of news designed to keep us salivating until season 8 arrives.

The latest? Ghost is returning, and Johnnie Walker has created a whisky inspired by – what else – the White Walkers.

In a recent interview with Huffington Post, Game of Thrones visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer promises that Ghost, protagonist Jon Snow’s direwolf, “does show up” in season 8.

“Oh, you’ll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time on season 8,” he says. “He’s fairly present and does some pretty cool things.”

Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall. So it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky

Better late than never. Ghost hasn’t been seen since season 6, and Jon Snow will need plenty of help warding off the White Walkers, who were last seen smashing through the Wall and entering Westeros, with the help of the undead dragon Viserion.

Speaking of White Walkers, the blue-eyed Others are getting the recognition they deserve with their very own scotch.

Whisky specialist George Harper worked with the scotch brand Johnnie Walker to release the White Walker – a blend that features single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish.

“Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall,” Harper says.

“So it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky.”

Thanks to temperature-sensitive ink technology, a graphic reading “Winter is Here” appears on the side of the bottle when it’s frozen

The limited edition blend has sweet, warm notes of caramelised sugar and vanilla, along with a bright boost from fresh red berries and orchard fruit.

The packaging, however, is what makes this bottle a collectible for fans.

Not only does the frosty white and blue bottle feature Johnnie Walker’s signature Striding Man – now wearing White-Walker-appropriate armour – but the brand also used temperature-sensitive ink technology to great effect: when frozen, a graphic reading “Winter is Here” appears on the side of the bottle.

Winter is coming – but you’ll have a nice scotch to while away those long, cold days until season 8 finally shows.
