Gübelin and Parmigiani Fleurier collaborate on new watch

Gubelin x Parmigiani Fleurier collaboration bracelet and watch

Jewellery house Gübelin and watch company Parmigiani Fleurier have just launched their first collaboration timepiece.

The Tonda 1950 Gübelin’s design is inspired by an inclusion formed by a drop of basaltic melt being trapped inside a ruby. The watch is limited to 28 pieces. The shape of the inclusion, which looks like two overlapping ovals, has been incorporated in the timepiece as well as two jewellery items – a bracelet and a pair of earrings.

“When you look inside a gemstone, it tells you a story,” says Hanspeter Pieth, executive vice-president of Gübelin. “Every stone has a different inclusion inside which makes the stone unique.”

The bezel is set with 84 rubies while the mother-of-pearl dial features circular motifs that mimic the curves of the inclusion. The movement, which is topped with an oscillating weight set with red enamel, can be seen from the transparent caseback.
