Chinese firefighters warm hearts as frozen kittens rescued from burnt-out building

A group of firefighters in northeast China became the cat’s pyjamas after footage of them rescuing five frozen kittens from the ruins of a burned-out building was posted online on the weekend.
The video showing an ice-covered fireman extracting an equally ice-encrusted cat from the building in Dalian, Liaoning province, was viewed 10.8 million times on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like microblogging service.
The five cats were returned to their owners, according to The Beijing News.
The firefighters had responded to a blaze at a run-down residential block on Saturday, where temperatures dropped to -6 degrees Celsius. They re-entered the building that night to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and heard the cats meowing, the report said.
“The kindness of these firefighters has made me feel warm during these freezing days,” one Weibo user wrote.
An image of two firefighters with icicles hanging from their helmets and jackets was dubbed “a song of ice and fire”, after the hit television series A Game of Thrones.
