Transparency in taxation should be pursued, and tax information should be readily available for free, suggests Indonesian firm Danny Darussalam Tax Center (DDTC). Its proposal is lofty but doable, as DDTC believes that passion and access to global tax knowledge will minimise disputes and raise the level of the taxation industry's practices.

"Only a few people have access to tax information, and it comes with a cost," says senior partner Danny Septriadi. "We aim to eliminate information asymmetry by providing training and publications, and offering advice from our pool of talented professionals who have access to the most comprehensive taxation library in Indonesia."

An advocate of tax education, DDTC set up the Danny Darussalam Tax Academy (DDTax Academy), which offers a variety of training courses, workshops and seminars for taxpayers and authorities. The training programmes are also open to business owners, investors and students.

Through DDTax Academy's intensive and practical training courses, the firm was able to gain the trust of potential customers who eventually became its clients and brand ambassadors.

The academy also serves as an incubation ground for DDTC's well-rounded specialists, equipping them with unparallelled knowledge and experience to provide the best dispute resolutions and the most accurate and timely transfer pricing and compliance advice to clients such as Toyota Astra Motor, Astra Daihatsu Motor, and the Indonesian offices of BP, Shell, Panasonic Healthcare, Unilever, Frisian Flag and Philip Morris.

"Our firm was established to educate, and our worldwide tax knowledge is our clients' advantage," Septriadi says.

With taxation rules changing by the day, DDTC invests heavily in staff education, research and technology to stay relevant. It welcomes investors and technology partners with similar goals to continually provide borderless knowledge to cross-border businesses.

"We offer practical solutions supported by academic insight," Septriadi says. "Providing quality services is our top priority."
