Memorable leisure experiences such as going on thrilling rides that twist and turn through steep tracks, grooving to catchy tunes at concerts, and watching live theatrical performances are best enjoyed when people are assured of their safety. In settings like these, guaranteeing safety is of the utmost importance, and none is better in making that promise than Japanese company Sansei Technologies.

Developing technology for “moving things” safely is the foundation of Sansei. Celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, Sansei designs, manufactures and installs elevators, amusement park rides and fixed stages. Aggressively pursuing a globalisation strategy, Sansei strengthened its portfolio with the acquisition of two companies with complementary businesses: amusement park rides and roller coaster expert S&S Worldwide, and stage equipment specialist TELMIC.

“We have acquired and have fully integrated these two companies to become our main vehicles to go abroad,” says Sansei president and CEO Makoto Nakagawa.

Sansei’s acquisition of Utah-based S&S enables it to cater to theme parks outside Japan.

Leveraging the company’s two manufacturing facilities, Sansei has greater flexibility in exporting the rides to wherever the clients want them delivered. S&S-Sansei is the name behind some of the thrilling rides in Disney Parks, Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain. From concept development all the way to after-sales service, it ensures that park rides are working in perfect condition.

Just as S&S increased Sansei’s scope, TELMIC also expanded the company’s expertise in installing permanent stages to include portable stage systems used for concerts and other performances.

Bullish in spreading its wings geographically, Sansei eyes 30 to 40 per cent growth of its business in Asia. The company is open to more acquisitions that would help position it as the leader in its field and welcomes working with more international companies seeking the quality and reliability that Sansei can deliver.
