Adonis Stevenson is in intensive care after being savagely knocked out by Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk in their WBC light-heavyweight title fight in Quebec on Saturday night.

The Canadian was on the end of a blistering combination in the 11th round of the contest and slumped in the corner following the barrage with the referee immediately calling off the fight.

Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel revealed on Twitter that the 41-year-old was in “critical condition” after being taken to hospital on a stretcher following the punishing finish.

“News on the condition of Adonis. The family of Adonis and Yvon Michel are currently with Adonis Stevenson,” wrote Michel.

“They want to inform friends and supporters Adonis is currently in critical condition in intensive care, at the hospital, following his fight against Oleksander Gvozdyk.

“They appreciate the concern and support of everyone.

Stevenson was boxing’s oldest champion and had defended his world title nine times. The loss to Gvozdyk represented just the second defeat of his storied career. The Haitian-Canadian had been the champion since 2013.
