But whether you need wholesale changes or just a couple of minor fixes, here are our picks and tips this week for who you should transfer in and out.

Forwards

Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0 million, 39 points) is the overall second most transferred in player this week, with 145,000 people signing him up.

But that’s nothing on Sergio Aguero (£11.4 million, 43 points) who now features in a whopping 52.1 per cent of total FPL squads, with 145,000 more users seeing the light this week.

Yes, he’s very expensive, but the Argentine almost guarantees goals and assists, and he scored his fourth of the season last time out at Cardiff after a relative dry spell. Brighton’s backline should be very worried heading to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5 million, 31 points) is starting to come back into favour at Arsenal and FPL managers are taking note.

The Frenchman has been transferred in by over 48,000 users after two goals and three assists in his last four Premier League games.

He also scored in midweek Brentford in the League Cup – Watford on home on Saturday is another good chance for him to show what he can do.

Midfielders

Leicester’s James Maddison (£6.8 million, 34 points) seems to be the hot pick this week, with a goal in each of his last two games including a belter of a free kick against Huddersfield, and over 152,000 FPL managers have transferred him in.

At that price he is certainly good value, especially for a midfielder, and Claude Puel’s men face a trip to struggling Newcastle on Saturday so he could be among the goals again.

All hail the return of Richarlison (£6.6 million, 23 points) for Everton too. The Brazilian midfielder came back at Arsenal last week after serving his three-match suspension, and hopefully he can get into the goalscoring groove again at home against Fulham.

Richarlison was vital to Everton’s good early season form, with three goals in their first two games. It’s no surprise they’ve struggled without their main man. Clearly many of you agree, with more than 121,000 users transferring him back into their squads this week.

Bernardo Silva (£7.5 million, 30 points) is back in favour after a goal and an assist against Cardiff, and Brighton at home should be another goal fest for the champions.

Nearly 100,000 users have put him in this week, and the midfielder is certainly good value, if a little bit inconsistent.

And of course there’s good old Eden Hazard (£11.0 million, 50 points) who has five Premier League goals for Chelsea this season and scored a stunner against Liverpool in the League Cup.

Can he hurt Jurgen Klopp’s men again this weekend? Well, 87,000 users have transferred him in, with the Belgian now in 35 per cent of overall squads.

Defenders

If you need a budget defender, Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.3 million, 28 points) increasingly fits the bill, with three clean sheets for Crystal Palace this season.

The 20-year-old is a gold mine for extras too, picking up three bonus points on three occasions.

If you missed the memo, Liverpool defenders are where it’s at. Andy Robertson (£6.2 million, 41 points) is in more than a quarter of users’ teams, with two assists, four clean sheets and seven bonus points this season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.1 million, 34 points) is also proving popular, with more than 126,000 FPL managers moving for him ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea.

You might be best advised to restrict yourself to one Liverpool defender and/or goalkeeper this weekend, given that tough fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City are likely to have an easy time of it at the back against Brighton, so maybe think about taking Kyle Walker (£6.5 million, 31 points) or Aymeric Laporte (£5.6 million, 30 points) if you’ve got the money to play with.

Goalkeepers

Joe Hart (£4.5 million, 33 points) is back in favour as a budget goalkeeper option after his first clean sheet for Burnley in five games, and 45,000 users have taken him back.

Wayne Hennessey (£4.6 million) is also proving popular, with two clean sheets for Crystal Palace in his last two games.

Manchester City’s Ederson (£5.7 million, 30 points) has also not conceded in his last two outings, and is unlikely to be troubled by Brighton.

WHO TO DROP

Benjamin Mendy (£6.3 million, 32 points) is being jettisoned by FPL managers at an astonishing rate, mostly because nobody knows whether to stick or twist with him.

He has now lost £0.2 million in value and it may only get worse, the left-back having missed Manchester City’s last four games.

The injured Frenchman – who does not have a return date after suffering a knock to his foot – is still in 21.4 per cent of user’s squads but he has been transferred out by more than 353,000 FPL managers this round. It’s a tough decision after Mendy’s strong start to the season, but maybe it’s time to move on.

After his impressive showing against Chelsea, the points have dried up again for Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0 million, 18 points) and it seems most of you have had enough.

Arsenal have Watford at home, and the Armenian isn’t exactly known to thrive against dogged defences.

Talking of Watford, a lot of people jumped on the Roberto Pereyra (£6.3 million, 32 points) bandwagon, yours truly included, after he scored three goals in the club’s first two games.

But the midfielder has managed just two points in each of his last three appearances. The Emirates Stadium may not be a happy hunting ground, either, with Arsenal in red-hot form after their shaky start to the season.

Early season optimism over Jordan Pickford (£4.9 million, 12 points) after his excellent World Cup displays with England has also dissipated.

The Everton goalkeeper hasn’t keep a clean sheet this season, and though he is still in 14.6 per cent of squads, that number is steadily decreasing – over 25,000 users have ditched him this week.

David de Gea (£5.9 million, 19 points) has only managed one clean sheet all season, largely because of the shambolic defences he’s had in front of him for Manchester United.

Still, United are in something of a crisis and a trip to West Ham is another potential banana skin. Avoid United defenders and goalkeepers at all costs at the moment.
