Englishman demands sacrifice from his players in his first international friendly against Thailand on Thursday night
New Hong Kong coach Gary White was delighted to get to work at the new training centre in Tseung Kwan O as he prepared for his first assignment against Thailand at Mong Kok Stadium on Thursday.
“I know the team had to move from one training venue to another before, just like what I came across when I was with the Taiwan team,” said White. “But now we can have a permanent site with such great facilities. It’s a good start.”
The 21-hectare facility has six full-size pitches – three grass and three artificial.
Englishman White, who arrived in Hong Kong last month, selected his first 23-player squad as they prepare to travel to Indonesia following the Thailand match for another international friendly as part of their build-up for November’s East Asian Football Championship Cup second round.
“I want the players to sacrifice themselves for the team and for everybody,” White said. “I want them to take ownership for the responsibility on the field and off the field, get unified together and I want them to leave a legacy.
“I want people to walk away from that game on the 11th talking about how well they performed.”
