Recap by phillip woo

Bigwood got shuffled back to third last approaching the final bend, then struck interference at the head of the straight before unleashing a strong turn of foot when the gap opened 150m out to run down All You Know 50m out. All You Know was no match for the winner after hitting the front 150m out following a one-off run over-racing fore of midfield. Magnetism came on widest out from the rear of the field to snatch third in a trouble- free run. He's not far off a bottom. Rickfield peaked on his run 100m out after looming a winning chance at the 200m from just worse than midfield. Even though he won over this trip, the 1,800m or even 2,200m suits him better. Post-time pick Cordyceps had no luck in the run after getting shuffled back to third last and getting hampered 300m out and should have finished closer. Stimulation faded after being hustled to lead 1,000m. He continues to disappoint despite a downgrade here.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (719) - SHOUSON HILL HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

MIGHTY POWER was withdrawn on 4.6.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RIGHT HONOURABLE (M L Yeung).

Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

STIMULATION began only fairly and then was ridden along in the early stages to take up a forward position.

RICKFIELD and ALL YOU KNOW bumped on a number of occasions shortly after the start.

BEAUTY ICON stumbled at the start and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners.

From wide barriers, HEAVENLY THOUGHT and HAPPY WIN WIN were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, CORDYCEPS was slow to muster speed and then after passing the winning post on the first occasion got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT PAIR after being unable to prevent that horse from crossing.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BEAUTY ICON was checked away from the heels of HEAVENLY THOUGHT (M F Poon) which was being steadied to obtain cover behind RICKFIELD.

M F Poon was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Passing the 1300 Metres, RICKFIELD shifted out away from the heels of ALL YOU KNOW after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.

HAPPY WIN WIN, which was racing outside RICKFIELD and travelling keenly, was taken out by RICKFIELD which at this time was taken out further by ALL YOU KNOW which shifted out away from the heels of JOLLY HONOUR.

HEAVENLY THOUGHT, which was following RICKFIELD, commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse, resulting in HEAVENLY THOUGHT running out across the heels of HAPPY WIN WIN near the 1200 Metres.

After this, HAPPY WIN WIN was left racing wide and without cover and was allowed to improve its position closer to the lead after the 900 Metres, however, continued to travel wide and without cover and then in the Straight gave ground.

Near the 800 Metres, HEAVENLY THOUGHT was taken wider and without cover by RICKFIELD which shifted out away from the heels of ALL YOU KNOW which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOLLY HONOUR.

At the entrance to the Straight, CORDYCEPS and BIGWOOD raced tight as both horses attempted to improve between PERFECT PAIR and ALL YOU KNOW.

This resulted in CORDYCEPS being awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT PAIR approaching and passing the 300 Metres when held up for clear running behind that horse.

BIGWOOD also had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 250 Metres.

Passing the 150 Metres, BIGWOOD was shifted to the inside of ALL YOU KNOW which shifted out under pressure.

Approaching the 100 Metres, RICKFIELD shifted out under pressure.

When questioned, J Moreira (PERFECT PAIR) stated that it was anticipated that CORDYCEPS would show early speed and lead the race and PERFECT PAIR would either sit to the outside of that horse or behind CORDYCEPS.

He said CORDYCEPS did not show as much speed as was anticipated and when PERFECT PAIR showed superior speed to that horse, he shifted across to lead the race in the early stages.

He said when STIMULATION improved its position quickly around PERFECT PAIR after the 1100 Metres, he anticipated that that horse would continue on into the lead and run the race at a good tempo and therefore he elected near the 900 Metres to allow STIMULATION to cross PERFECT PAIR.

He said when he did this STIMULATION steadied the tempo in the lead and this resulted in PERFECT PAIR being awkwardly placed behind that horse near the 850 Metres.

He said in hindsight he had erred in allowing STIMULATION to cross PERFECT PAIR, however, he anticipated that that horse would dictate the race at a quicker pace than it ultimately did.

He said PERFECT PAIR was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres, however, was then disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding, particularly over the latter stages of the race when the horse gave ground.

He added, in his opinion, the horse's performance could be attributed to the circumstances of the race, however, he was of the belief that PERFECT PAIR did not feel as comfortable in its action as it did when ridden by him in the past.

A veterinary inspection of PERFECT PAIR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CORDYCEPS, BIGWOOD and ALL YOU KNOW were sent for sampling.
