Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (398) - SPORTS ROAD HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
SMOOTHIES and UNIQUE TREASURE began only fairly.
TOP MILITARY shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of MERIDIAN GENIUS which became unbalanced.
TOP MILITARY was then steadied to obtain cover.
From wide barriers, SUPER TURBO and SEVENTH SEA were also steadied in the early stages.
Passing the 1100 Metres, UNIQUE TREASURE got its head on the side and lay in away from MERIDIAN GENIUS.
Approaching the 700 Metres, FEARLESS FIRE was awkwardly placed behind MAGIC SUPREME.
SEVENTH SEA lay in under pressure in the early part of the Straight.
When questioned, K Teetan (FLYING GENIUS) stated that he was instructed, from the outside barrier, to ride his mount positively in the early stages and obtain a forward position.
He said FLYING GENIUS began only fairly and he rode his mount along vigorously in the early stages, however, FLYING GENIUS did not muster speed as anticipated.
He said as THIS IS CLASS and MAGIC SUPREME were able to obtain leading positions in the early stages without being ridden along, he felt that he would have had to make a lot of use of FLYING GENIUS in order to continue forward of MAGIC SUPREME to cross that horse to race outside THIS IS CLASS.
He said he therefore attempted to obtain a trailing position, however, when FEARLESS FIRE maintained its position behind MAGIC SUPREME, this resulted in FLYING GENIUS racing three wide and without cover.
He said he did give consideration to riding his mount along after the 900 Metres to establish whether he might be able to clear MAGIC SUPREME, however, he was aware that that horse was travelling strongly and as FLYING GENIUS was not travelling as well as he had hoped, he believed that he would have had to make a lot of use of FLYING GENIUS and therefore he felt that it was in the best interests of the horse to remain racing outside FEARLESS FIRE albeit in a three wide position without cover.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING GENIUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
THIS IS CLASS and MERIDIAN GENIUS were sent for sampling.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 2 February 2020 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of SUPREME WITNESS, ALLOY STAR, POWER KING, EIGHT TRIGRAMS, TEAM POWER, VICTORIOUS LEADER, SEIZE THE SPIRIT, GALAXY RACER, JOYFUL HEART, CASIMIRO, MONICA, SUPER ELEGANCE, FOODIE PRINCESS, MEGATRON, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE, CLEAR CHOICE, HOLY HEART, HONG KONG WIN, VALIANT DREAM, INNER FLAME, INVINCIBLE MISSILE, SUPER OASIS, BUTTERFIELD and COLUMBUS COUNTY revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of GENERAL TRUMP, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS, WAR OF COURAGE, FANTASY, SUNSHINE WARRIOR, RICH AND LUCKY, EXULTANT, GLORIOUS DRAGON, WELLINGTON, PING HAI BRAVO, BETTER CHOICE, GREAT TREASURE, SAM'S LOVE, GOD OF DRAGON, TASHIDELEK, GOLDEN SIXTY, MORE THAN THIS, ASSIMILATE, SEATTLE CHOICE, PERFECT MATCH, FAST MOST FURIOUS, LUCKY MORE, SUPER WEALTHY and BALLISTIC KING (27.1.20) proved negative.

Firming favourite This Is Class never looked back after jumping alertly to win with a class in hand. His gate speed is a real asset and he can head higher. Meridian Genius got going from midfield to just get the head down for second over Flying Sword. He didn't get the race run to suit. Flying Sword stayed on well for a placing after a box-seat run. He's starting to show some progress in recent runs. Fearless Fire kept on one-paced following a prominent run. It was a better effort but he's still trying to find a bottom. Super Turbo left things too late after making his run fourth from the back. He needs a faster pace. Wellbacked late Flying Genius faded to beta only a couple after a wide and without cover run better than midfield from a wide gate. He had an excuse in his first try over the 1,200m. Seventh Sea made some ground from near the back. He's still acclimatising but has shown some progress in his past two of four starts.
