Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Hinyuen Swiftness was headed at the 900m by Breeze Of Spring, reclaimed the front upon straightening and kept on gamely for the win. Xponential found one too good after settling nicely one off in third. It was another honest effort carrying top weight. Super Mission ran on well for third without menacing the Quinella pair after making his run fourth from the back. He was suited by the rise in trip at only his second start. Newcomer Fast Pace came on nicely near the inside to fill the frame after trailing the field from a wide gate until the 300m. He does appear to have some raw ability and the future looks bright. Breeze Of Spring had nothing left inside the final 150m after rushing forward to lead 1,000m out. He's on his mark after a win three starts back. Shining On only plodded following a midfield run on the fence. Speedster Hard Promise was off his game from the get-go after hopping in the air at the start.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (641) - PERIDOT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

HARD PROMISE (N Callan) lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then lost ground after being checked away from the heels of BREEZE OF SPRING which shifted out.

After the race, N Callan stated that after this he had to make some use of HARD PROMISE to obtain a forward position.

He said HARD PROMISE was then left racing wide and without cover near the 900 Metres and because of these factors was not able to finish off the race and weakened.

A veterinary inspection of HARD PROMISE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

From the outside barriers, SUPER MISSION, SUN OF MAKFI and SO AWESOME were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

When being steadied to obtain cover behind XPONENTIAL after the 1100 Metres, ARDENODE travelled keenly and got its head up.

Approaching the 700 Metres, WIN FOR YOUTH lost ground after racing tight between SHINING ON and ARDENODE which was racing tight inside HARD PROMISE.

Near the 650 Metres, FAST PACE shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of SUN OF MAKFI.

Rounding the Home Turn, SUPER MISSION and SUNSHINE UNIVERSE bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

Throughout the race, SUNSHINE UNIVERSE travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, A Hamelin stated that he was asked to shift FAST PACE across behind runners in the early stages and obtain cover.

He said he commenced to ride his mount along prior to the 500 Metres and FAST PACE responded well to his riding in the early part of the Straight.

He said he rode FAST PACE vigorously hands and heels in the Straight and slapped the horse down the shoulder with the whip.

He said as FAST PACE, which was having its first race start today, was finishing off its race strongly, he did not believe the horse would be advantaged by using the whip in the backhand manner and for this reason he rode it out vigorously hands and heels all the way to the end of the race.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS compared to its two most recent runs, Mr C H Yip, the trainer of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS, stated that his instructions to his riders had been consistent in that at all of its recent runs the riders had been instructed to take up a forward position.

He said at its last two starts over 1400 Metres, despite being ridden along for some distance, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was not able to show sufficient speed to be able to lead those races and, in his opinion, this accounted for the horse's failure to finish off its races.

He added those races, in his opinion, had been stronger than today's race and he felt HINYUEN SWIFTNESS would race better today as the quality of the field was lesser than that at its most recent runs.

He said nonetheless he was surprised that HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was able to obtain the lead in the early stages as easily as it did given that the horse was not able to show sufficient speed to lead in its recent races.

He said whilst HINYUEN SWIFTNESS was able to improve its performance today, he attributed this to the horse participating in a weaker race and being able to obtain the lead in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection of SHINING ON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HINYUEN SWIFTNESS and XPONENTIAL were sent for sampling.
