Recap by phillip woo

Ezra closed nicely three from the right to just get up for the win after a wide with cover run behind midfield from gate 14. He will find it tougher in Class Three next start. Favourite Darci Joy had his chance after a prominent run on the fence but found one better on this occasion. He's gone very well in his past three starts following a step up to 1,600m. Leading Fortune finished an unlucky third after getting held up for a run until the 150m following a handy run with cover. He keeps finding ways to beat himself this season. Punted late Oscar Glory was collared late for a placing after getting his own way in front. The big weight took its toll. Big Brook kept on all right after a rails run in midfield. He's always had soundness issues but it was his best run to date from eight starts. Right As Rain ran on well from near last to just miss a pay slip with a step up to a mile yesterday. He's a nice middle-distance type in the making after hitting the line well in both starts. New Future ran on without menacing after biding his time fourth last along the inside. It was a better run with a return to Sha Tin. Jiangxi Stamina found nothing when push came to shove occupying a one-out, one-back spot from the 800m. He's a Class Five horse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (267) - LUKFOOK JEWELLERY LOVE FOREVER COLLECTION HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Meters

The Stewards today inquired into the circumstances regarding the inadvertent treatment of CHATER PINS which was withdrawn from this race this morning by order of the Stewards.

Evidence was taken from Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of CHATER PINS, Mr C H Wong, Mr Hayes' allocated assistant trainer, and Mr W H Liu, head lad allocated to Mr Hayes' stable.

It was established that CHATER PINS was inadvertently treated with an anti-ulcer medication and as CHATER PINS had been treated on raceday with this medication, the Stewards acceded to a request from Mr Hayes for the horse to be withdrawn.

It was subsequently established that Mr Liu had inadvertently treated CHATER PINS despite there being a number of measures in place to ensure that the horse was not treated given that it had been declared to race.

Mr Hayes pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 50(2) in that as the person responsible for all matters pertaining to the running of his stable including the work of the stable staff allocated to him, he failed to ensure that CHATER PINS was not treated in accordance with the Rules of Racing.

After considering all the circumstances of this case, Mr Hayes was fined the sum of $20,000.

Mr Liu was advised that a report in respect of this matter would be forwarded to Mr K L Cheng, Head of Dual Site Stables Operations and Owners Services, for his consideration and necessary action.

BIG BROOK began only fairly and then shortly after the start raced tight between LEADING FORTUNE and OSCAR GLORY which began awkwardly.

GO GO SIXTEEN was crowded for room on jumping between GREAT TREASURE and DECISIVE ACTION which was bumped by KUNG FU TEA which shifted in.

After this, DECISIVE ACTION was steadied to obtain cover.

From wide barriers, FASTER and RIGHT AS RAIN were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.

After the 900 Metres, GO GO SIXTEEN was left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 550 Metres, GREAT TREASURE raced in restricted room between DECISIVE ACTION and NEW FUTURE which shifted out from behind BIG BROOK.

JIANGXI STAMINA lay out rounding the Home Turn.

After the 200 Metres, LEADING FORTUNE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of DARCI JOY when improving to the outside of that horse as DARCI JOY shifted out marginally under pressure.

When questioned, C Y Ho (JIANGXI STAMINA) stated that it was expected that today's race would not be run at a good tempo and therefore he was asked, from barrier 6, not to allow JIANGXI STAMINA to get too far out of its ground so that it did not have to make up too much ground if the race were to be run as anticipated.

He said because of these instructions he had hoped for JIANGXI STAMINA to be able to obtain a position in about midfield with cover.

He said to ensure that JIANGXI STAMINA did not get out of its ground in the early stages, he ensured that the horse began positively and rode his mount along in the early stages.

He said JIANGXI STAMINA responded better to his riding than it had when he had ridden the horse previously and was able to obtain a more forward position than had been expected.

He said he allowed JIANGXI STAMINA to cross LEADING FORTUNE to his inside so as not to cover unnecessary ground and after shifting across to race outside OSCAR GLORY at the 1400 Metres, he steadied his mount with a view to obtaining cover from runners outside JIANGXI STAMINA which were obtaining forward positions.

He said although JIANGXI STAMINA was not able to obtain cover until passing the 900 Metres when KUNG FU TEA shifted in to race in advance of JIANGXI STAMINA, his mount had not over-raced and he was happy with the manner in which it had travelled.

He said after being crossed by KUNG FU TEA, JIANGXI STAMINA continued to travel well and he was able to shift his mount to the outside of that horse rounding the Home Turn.

He said in the early part of the Straight JIANGXI STAMINA came under heavy pressure and, despite being ridden along, did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the concluding stages.

He added having regard to the manner in which JIANGXI STAMINA raced today, he was of the opinion that the horse is better suited when able to be ridden in amongst runners and further back in the field than had been the case today.

Mr W Y So, the trainer of JIANGXI STAMINA, confirmed that it had been intended for the horse to be ridden in a more forward position so as not to get too far out of its ground in what was anticipated to be a moderately run race.

He said however he did not expect the horse to be ridden as far forward as it was today and, given the manner in which the horse finished off the race, it would be his intention for it to be ridden more quietly in future if circumstances permit.

A veterinary inspection of JIANGXI STAMINA immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

A veterinary inspection of KUNG FU TEA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EZRA and DARCI JOY were sent for sampling.
