Recap by phillip woo

Favourite The Golden Scenery shot clear 350m out after straightening the widest after a patient ride one from the rear for a second win from his past three starts. He's showing his true abilities now and can win again. Setanta got up 100m out for second after a prominent run. He was able to build on a debut third over the Valley 1,200m and can break through shortly. Roman Turbo stuck on gamely to just miss second prize money after going forward better than midfield to sit three deep without cover in third at the 700m. Circuit Three ran on steadily to fill the frame after settling midfield on the fence. He's been around the mark in his past three starts. E Star ran on from behind midfield to just miss a top-four spot. He's naturally returning to form in his three outings this term. Punted late, Hinchinlove weakened in the run to the wire after getting a relatively easy time in front from a wide draw. He's not easy to get right. Tempest Express made only a mild bid after a patient ride at the rear of the field. Highland Fortune didn't find much when push came to shove after drawing nearly level rounding the final bend following a pace-stalking run. He's found things harder carrying big weights in his past two runs.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (357) - ABLE FRIEND HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

SILVER EXPRESS was withdrawn on 21.1.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).

Before being allowed to race again, SILVER EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After proceeding towards the Start, THE GOLDEN SCENERY proved reluctant to continue up to the barriers.

This resulted in a delay to the start.

Trainer A S Cruz was advised that a warning will be placed on THE GOLDEN SCENERY in respect of this matter.

ROMAN TURBO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped THE GOLDEN SCENERY.

TEMPEST EXPRESS got its head up on a number of occasions and travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover passing the 1200 Metres.

Approaching the 700 Metres, E STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SETANTA which was taken out by HIGHLAND FORTUNE.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SETANTA was awkwardly placed behind ROMAN TURBO.

For some distance after the 100 Metres, TEMPEST EXPRESS raced tight outside E STAR which shifted out.

Then close to the finishing line, E STAR and TEMPEST EXPRESS bumped.

As a result of E STAR and TEMPEST EXPRESS racing tight, the riders of those horses were unable to fully ride their mounts out over the concluding stages.

Approaching the 50 Metres, THE GOLDEN SCENERY shifted out abruptly.

For the majority of the race, ROMAN TURBO travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, A Badel stated that after obtaining a good position in the early stages, HIGHLAND FORTUNE travelled well in the race which was run at a moderate tempo.

He said HIGHLAND FORTUNE came under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres and, despite being ridden along, commenced to give ground passing the 300 Metres and then when weakening out of the race did not feel comfortable in its action.

A veterinary inspection of HIGHLAND FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

As this was the second consecutive occasion that a rider has expressed concern regarding the action of HIGHLAND FORTUNE, the Stewards referred this matter to the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for further assessment.

Further, the Stewards ruled that HIGHLAND FORTUNE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

THE GOLDEN SCENERY and SETANTA were sent for sampling.
