Recap by phillip woo

Go Go Sixteen came with a ducking-and-weaving run from last at the top of the straight to overhaul Daily Charm in the final few metres for a maiden at his 15th start. Daily Charm did everything right but get the win after hitting the front 80m out following a one-off run better than midfield. He's close to a win. Mission Smart kept plugging away for a placing after hitting the front 300m out stalking the leader Light My Day. It was a return to form at his fourth start following a downgrade. Speedy Dragon ran on steadily to fill the frame without menacing the top-three after a wide without cover trip in midfield. He's racing reasonably well but keeps finding a few too good. Brave Power made ground late without threatening after settling deep on the course four from the back from gate 14. It was another honest effort. Daily Beauty came up one-paced over the final 150m after getting out of a traffic jam following a prominent run on the fence. He had an excuse. Splendid Timing gradually faded after a one-out, one-back run. He's limited. Favourite Light My Day was gone 300m out after finding the front from gate three. It was a disappointing performance with a step back to the distance of a win and two earlier placings.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (530) - TAI WO HAU HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1600Meters

SPEEDY DRAGON undertook its required stalls test on 28 February 2022 without blinkers and accordingly was required to race without that gear.

Trainer K L Man was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to submit a gear change removing blinkers to SPEEDY DRAGON, a declared runner in this race, by the required time.

KWAI CHUNG ELITE was withdrawn on 26.3.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPLENDID TIMING (M L Yeung).

Before being allowed to race again, KWAI CHUNG ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

GO GO SIXTEEN began only fairly.

JOY MASTER was slow to begin and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From outside barriers, GOLDEN FOUR and BRAVE POWER were steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.

A short distance after the start, LIGHT MY DAY shifted out and brushed SPLENDID TIMING.

In the early stages, SCHOLAR got its head up and travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover.

SCHOLAR then proved very difficult to settle for some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres.

After the 900 Metres, SPEEDY DRAGON was left racing wide and without cover.

At the entrance to the Straight, AEROSONIC was steadied away from the heels of DAILY CHARM when awkwardly placed behind that horse.

GO GO SIXTEEN (B Shinn) was shifted out away from the heels of SINCERE BOY passing the 400 Metres after being held up for clear running behind that horse.

GO GO SIXTEEN then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and was again held up for clear running from passing the 300 Metres until after the 200 Metres at which time GO GO SIXTEEN was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.

When GO GO SIXTEEN was shifted out, GOLDEN FOUR was steadied away from the heels of that horse when crowded for room inside JOY MASTER which was also inconvenienced.

B Shinn was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Passing the 300 Metres, DAILY BEAUTY got its head on the side and shifted out away from LIGHT MY DAY and in doing so was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPLENDID TIMING.

After this, DAILY BEAUTY was unable to obtain clear running until after the 100 Metres.

Approaching the 250 Metres, AEROSONIC was momentarily tightened for room between SPEEDY DRAGON and JOY MASTER which shifted out.

Then approaching the 100 Metres, AEROSONIC shifted out and bumped SCHOLAR.

After the 100 Metres, SPEEDY DRAGON was brushed by GO GO SIXTEEN which shifted to the outside of DAILY CHARM to continue improving.

After the race, Z Purton was not able to offer any explanation for LIGHT MY DAY's failure to finish the race off.

He said the horse travelled comfortably in the lead and was able to dictate the tempo of the race.

He said LIGHT MY DAY came under pressure in the early part of the Straight and then did not respond to his riding after being placed under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of LIGHT MY DAY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer?? A veterinary inspection of SINCERE BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LIGHT MY DAY, GO GO SIXTEEN and DAILY CHARM were sent for sampling.
