Racing Incident Report
Race Two: (437) - FENWICK HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters
K C Leung (HAPPY GATHERING) and C Y Ho (LE PLUS VITE) were each fined $2,000 for initially presenting themselves to be weighed out with the incorrect saddle cloth number.
PRIDE OF DRAGON, which was standing awkwardly in the barriers, jumped only fairly.
On jumping, DOUBLE SHOW was crowded for room between LE PLUS VITE and ALLOY STAR which was taken in by COLONEL.
Soon after the start, HUNKY DORY dipped, shifted in and made contact with CIRCUIT SPLENDOR.
CIRCUIT SPLENDOR raced keenly in the middle stages.
When placed under pressure near the 200 Metres, COLONEL shifted in abruptly and as a consequence became awkwardly placed close to HAPPY GATHERING and was steadied away from the heels of that runner.
A short distance later, HAPPY GATHERING shifted out slightly and placed COLONEL at a further disadvantage.
In this incident, ALLOY STAR was taken out by COLONEL near the 150 Metres and as a result bumped CIRCUIT SPLENDOR which became unbalanced.
DASHING GENIUS raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
The Stewards opened an inquiry into C L Chau's riding of CIRCUIT SPLENDOR throughout the event with particular emphasis on the early stages and in the Home Straight.
After taking evidence from Mr T P Yung, trainer of CIRCUIT SPLENDOR, and Jockey Chau, the inquiry was adjourned until a date to be fixed.
A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT SPLENDOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EUROMISSILE, RAGING BLAZE and HAPPY GATHERING were sent for sampling.

Punted late, Raging Blaze came with a barnstorming run after shifting into the open 200m out to overhaul Happy Gathering in the final stages for his first win on his 26th start. He had been knocking on the door all season long. Happy Gathering found one too good after surging to the lead 150m out following his box-seat run. He remains one to follow if he remains in Class Five. Circuit Splendor ran on well to finish a close third after his trip one off the fence worse than midfield. It was his best run to date off a career-low in the ratings. Favourite Euromissile ran on steadily for fourth after his rail run from midfield. He has been costly to follow, filling the frame in each of his past three starts. Alloy King held his ground after his prominent run one off the fence from barrier 10. It was another honest effort. Double Show ran on without threatening from towards the rear. He might be able to find his mark shortly in this grade. Hunky Dory came up flat after travelling two-to-three deep with cover from behind midfield on just his third outing this term. He is still working on his fitness. Colonel gave up the chase when impeded 150m out following his speed-stalking run.
