Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Savaquin responded nicely when asked for an effort to take control 100m out after travelling better than midfield on the fence. The win was overdue after placing in each of his four Valley runs from eight other starts this term. Gorytus dashed late near the outside to just edge Nearly Fine for second after making his run three from the rear. He was able to back up a win last month despite a rise in class. Nearly Fine was just out-dashed for second after a patient ride second last from gate 10. It was another honest effort with a return to the course of three earlier wins this term. Berlin Tango ran on to finish next best without threatening the top three from behind midfield. He does appear from his past few starts to be on his mark. Savvy Nine came up one paced after a prominent run with cover. The big weight took its toll for a second straight run. Red Majesty weakened over the last 100m after drawing level with the leader Telecom Fighters 150m out following a pace-stalking run. He's a Class Three horse. Telecom Fighters gradually faded over the last 150m after finding the front from gate three.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (519) - ARBUTHNOT HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1650Meters

CELESTIAL POWER jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

EVERYONE'S DELIGHT shifted out at the start and bumped with TELECOM FIGHTERS.

PACKING AWARD shifted in on jumping, bumping RED MAJESTY.

From a wide barrier, NEARLY FINE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 1500 Metres, NEARLY FINE improved to the inside of GORYTUS as that runner was being shifted across, resulting in NEARLY FINE being crowded and taken in onto CELESTIAL POWER, causing NEARLY FINE and CELESTIAL POWER to make contact and become unbalanced.

Passing the 1500 Metres, SAVAQUIN shifted in, crowding the running of BERLIN TANGO.

A short distance later, SAVAQUIN was attempted to be corrected by its rider, H Bowman, however, was unable to shift out due to SAVVY NINE (R Maia) shifting in when not clear and leaving insufficient room for SAVAQUIN and BERLIN TANGO to his inside, resulting in BERLIN TANGO having to be steadied and losing its running.

In the circumstances, R Maia was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside.

Near the 150 Metres, BERLIN TANGO was shifted to the outside of RED MAJESTY to secure clear running.

A veterinary inspection of PACKING AWARD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SAVAQUIN and GORYTUS were sent for sampling.
