Recap by phillip woo

Plunged late to jump favourite, Happy United stalked the pace, hit the front 200m out and just scrambled in to shed his maiden tag on his fourth start. He was able to atone for his last-start loss as the favourite. Young Life Forever ran on nicely to finish a close second following his wide trip in midfield, just edging Loriz. It was a good effort on his return from his January defeat during which he had blood in his trachea. Loriz just missed second prize after his dream run in the box seat. He is always a chance over this Happy Valley trip. Denfield ran on well for fourth despite travelling four from the rear and shifting ground 500m out. He has flashed ability in his past two starts, but he is still green. Diamond Diamond ran on nicely to finish next best after turning the final bend one from the rear. It was a pleasing debut effort. Modest Gentlemen ran on without threatening after making his run out back from gate 11. He is going to be worth keeping safe from a better draw. Good View Glory made a mild bid from behind midfield after his rail run. It was a slightly better run on his step up to 1,200m, but he remains a work in progress.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (629) - RENFREW HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

After being loaded into the barriers, MODEST GENTLEMAN reared and momentarily sat down.

MODEST GENTLEMAN was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that in his opinion it was suitable to race.

Before being allowed to race again, MODEST GENTLEMAN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

HAR HAR AT HEART and DREAM PURSUER jumped only fairly.

SAVVY CHIC shifted in at the start and bumped MODEST GENTLEMAN.

M Chadwick (WINNING DELAGO) reported that at the start he positioned his head to the inside as WINNING DELAGO has a tendency to lift its head when jumping away.

WINNING DELAGO was then bumped on jumping by DIAMOND DIAMOND which shifted out.

In the early stages, HAR HAR AT HEART got its head up when racing tight to the inside of LORIZ.

HAR HAR AT HEART then continued to race ungenerously in the early stages and was restrained away from the heels of WINNING DELAGO throughout the middle stages.

Near the 600 Metres, HAR HAR AT HEART lost ground as it continued to be steadied away from WINNING DELAGO, resulting in DENFIELD, which was following, having to be checked away from the heels of HAR HAR AT HEART, shifting out abruptly across the heels of YOUNG LIFE FOREVER and taking SAVVY CHIC wider.

MODEST GENTLEMAN, which was following, was steadied as a consequence and then raced tight to the inside of DENFIELD for a short distance thereafter when DENFIELD attempted to resume its position.

For some distance near the 800 Metres, DIAMOND DIAMOND raced keenly and near the 600 Metres lay in behind DREAM PURSUER.

Near the 300 Metres, MODEST GENTLEMAN endeavoured to secure clear running to the outside of YOUNG LIFE FOREVER when racing tight to the inside of DENFIELD, resulting in MODEST GENTLEMAN and DENFIELD making contact on a number of occasions between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres.

Inside the 200 Metres, DENFIELD then shifted in, taking MODEST GENTLEMAN in.

When questioned regarding his riding of SAVVY CHIC, S De Sousa stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to obtain a position midfield with cover.

He said making the first turn SAVVY CHIC was caught wide when MODEST GENTLEMAN held its position to his inside and as a result he then went forward of MODEST GENTLEMAN to obtain a position with cover behind YOUNG LIFE FOREVER.

He added that near the 600 Metres when DENFIELD ran out abruptly, SAVVY CHIC became unbalanced when taken wider and from this point he had some concerns with the action of his mount.

Trainer F C Lor confirmed the instructions issued.

A veterinary inspection of SAVVY CHIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, SAVVY CHIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of DREAM PURSUER, DENFIELD and WINNING DELAGO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HAPPY UNITED and YOUNG LIFE FOREVER were sent for sampling.
