Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Lucky Encounter kept finding when challenged by Rewarding Smile 100m out after working to the lead 900m out from a tricky gate to make it two on the trot and first in the grade from three starts. Rewarding Smile found one too smart on the day after a box seat run. It was another good run carrying more weight following a debut win. Northern Beaches ran on well for third after being held up early straight from midfield. He's flashed potential when ridden patiently in two of three local runs. Silver Sonic plugged on reasonably well for fourth after a one-out, one-back run despite gate 12. He's acclimatising nicely with back-to-back fourths from three local starts. Shining Gem made some ground late to finish next best after a patient ride third last under a 10-pound claimer. Compassion Super just held his ground from midfield on the rails. He's itching for a return to an easier Class Four spot. Show Respect came up rather one paced from behind midfield. He's still settling in. Prince Of Porty was retreating near 200m after working forward to track the winner from gate 11.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (680) - BADMINTON 1200M HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

After being loaded into the barriers, O'LINER became fractious, reared and was cast when it got its left front leg over the barrier partition for a considerable period of time.

O'LINER was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, O'LINER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, O'LINER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SHINING GEM, which was in the adjacent barrier, was also removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

REWARD SMILE and LUCKY ENCOUNTER jumped awkwardly.

NISHIKADO and KIMBERLEY bumped at the start.

Near the 800 Metres, COMPASSION SPIRIT raced tight to the inside of NORTHERN BEACHES when that runner was taken in slightly by SILVER SONIC (H Bentley).

H Bentley was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 200 Metres, SHINING GEM was steadied and shifted to the outside of PRINCE OF PORTY when that runner commenced to give ground.

SHINING GEM then could not be fully tested to the finish when racing tight between NORTHERN BEACHES and SILVER SONIC.

NORTHERN BEACHES lay in when placed under pressure in the Straight and for some distance after the 150 Metres was reluctant to shift to the outside of REWARD SMILE to find clear running, placing its rider, M Chadwick, at some disadvantage.

When questioned regarding his riding of SILVER SONIC, H Bentley stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a forward position.

He said in accordance with his instructions he allowed SILVER SONIC to settle in an on-pace position.

Trainer K W Lui confirmed the instructions issued.

After the race, Z Purton (PRINCE OF PORTY) stated that he was obliged to make some use of his mount in the early stages to take up a position outside the lead, however, PRINCE OF PORTY still raced in a disappointing manner.

A veterinary inspection of PRINCE OF PORTY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer?? The performance of PRINCE OF PORTY was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, PRINCE OF PORTY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of READY TO WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LUCKY ENCOUNTER and REWARD SMILE were sent for sampling.
