Wonder Kit stalked the speed in third and raced away from his rivals 150m out to post his first Hong Kong win on his ninth local start. He took advantage of gate one for a deserved victory and has the tools to head higher. Reward Smile ran on nicely near the inside to take second after settling one off the fence behind midfield from barrier 10. He is running well and remains a galloper to follow. Specked late, Red Elegance dashed well to fill a placing after a patient ride three from the rear. It was a pleasing first Happy Valley appearance after being disappointing twice following his debut win over 1,000m at Sha Tin. Also supported late, Copartner Ambition finished strongly for fourth after settling towards the rear from gate 12. He has been an improved runner since joining Danny Shum's yard but cannot draw an inside barrier. Phoenix Light ran on steadily near the inside to pick up a minor cheque after travelling four from the rear. Magic Phoenix was not good enough after prompting the pace and hitting the lead 300m out. Superb Capitalist weakened over the final 100m after having to work hard to lead.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (779) - VIOLET HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

DESERT STAR jumped only fairly.

GORGEOUS VITALITY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Shortly after the start, LESLIE, which also jumped only fairly, was crowded for room by VICTORY SCHOLARS which shifted in.

After the race, M Dee reported that his intention was to be more forward, but LESLIE settled further back after being crowded shortly after the start.

He added LESLIE did not stretch out comfortably throughout the event and failed to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection of LESLIE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Near the 600 Metres, WONDER KIT shifted to the outside of MAGIC PHOENIX and in doing so made contact with E UNIVERSE.

From the 150 Metres, RED ELEGANCE raced tight to the inside of VICTORY SCHOLARS, resulting in both runners brushing near the 100 Metres.

Approaching the 100 Metres, PHOENIX LIGHT was shifted to the inside of SUPERB CAPITALIST to continue into clear running.

After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung (SUPERB CAPITALIST) stated that his mount was unsuited by not being able to cross to the front and lead MAGIC PHOENIX and as a result gave ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection of SUPERB CAPITALIST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SUPERB CAPITALIST, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPERB CAPITALIST will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of VICTORY SCHOLARS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WONDER KIT and REWARD SMILE were sent for sampling.
