Recap by phillip woo

Victor The Winner had plenty left in the tank after getting away with a soft lead from gate five to easily roll champion sprinter Lucky Sweynesse for a sixth win from nine career starts. The massive 20-pound pull in the weights was the difference in the end. Lucky Sweynesse made a spirited bid but couldn't make up the ground after making his run second last. The big weight and testing ground conditions took its toll. Adios ran on steadily to fill a placing after a prominent run. It was a good run in a higher grade but he's honest as the day is long. Rewarding Together gradually faded to finish next best after a speed-tracking run. He went OK but doesn't have many points in hand off his current mark. Ima Single Man never figured after chasing the leading pair on the fence. He's not racing well but was badly handicapped off 90. Youthful Deal never got into the act after making his run at the rear as the co-lowest rated runner in the small field. He's a dirt horse and was just making up the numbers.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (4) - THE HKSAR CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1200Meters

YOUTHFUL DEAL was slow to begin.

When questioned regarding his riding of LUCKY SWEYNESSE, Z Purton stated that he was instructed, from the outside barrier, to ride LUCKY SWEYNESSE conservatively in the early stages.

He said when IMA SINGLE MAN drawn to his inside showed intent to go forward, he elected to allow LUCKY SWEYNESSE to settle behind that runner.

He added when placed under full pressure in the Home Straight, under its big weight, today's "Yielding??track conditions and the slow early sectionals of the event, LUCKY SWEYNESSE found it difficult to make up ground.

Trainer K L Man confirmed the instructions issued to Jockey Purton and indicated they were issued on the basis that LUCKY SWEYNESSE was carrying top weight in today's race, had an interrupted track work schedule due to adverse weather conditions in Hong Kong and had only one barrier trial leading into the race, when on that occasion it led and had not finished the trial off strongly when beaten by VICTOR THE WINNER.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY SWEYNESSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

VICTOR THE WINNER and LUCKY SWEYNESSE were sent for sampling.
