Racing Incident Report
Race Nine: (45) - HKU FACULTIES OF ARTS AND EDUCATION HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600Meters
YOUNG BRILLIANT and LEADING FORTUNE brushed at the start.
From the outside barriers, CALIFORNIA TEN and POWERFUL WINGS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
BIG RED raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1100 Metres was steadied to avoid YOUNG BRILLIANT.
From the 400 Metres until the 250 Metres, SNAFFLES was held up for clear running.
For some distance near the 200 Metres, MASTER OF FORTUNE raced tight between BIG RED and SECRET VISION.
LEADING FORTUNE raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and subsequently finished tailed out.
A veterinary inspection of LEADING FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of LEADING FORTUNE was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, LEADING FORTUNE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of YOUNG BRILLIANT, M F Poon stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily outside the lead and after initially responding to his riding in the early part of the Home Straight gave ground over the concluding stages.
He was unable to offer any explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection of YOUNG BRILLIANT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, K De Melo (POWERFUL WINGS) reported that his mount hung in throughout the event.
Also after the race, H Bowman (CALIFORNIA TEN) could offer no excuse for his mount's disappointing performance.

Punted late, Happy Together received a patient ride from Alexis Badel, settling third last from gate 10 before moving down the outside and getting the better of favourite Snaffles. It was his first start for Frankie Lor Fu-chuen, and he always seems to produce his best under Badel. Snaffles overcame being held up on the fence until passing the 200m pole to hit the front 100m out. He could not stave off Happy Together. However, he is a winner waiting to happen with placings in both of his starts this term. Big Red found a couple too smart after enjoying a dream run in the box seat and working to the lead 200m out. Like Snaffles, he should salute soon. Master Of Fortune did his best work late to nearly fill a placing after making his run three from the rear. He has done nothing wrong in his two Class Three starts since his Class Four win in July. Secret Vision ran on from midfield without threatening the placegetters. It was an OK effort following his last-start victory. Packing Hurricane plugged on one-paced under 10-pound claimer Ellis Wong Chi-wang. He would benefit from a longer trip and a stronger jockey.
