Recap by phillip woo

Top-weighted California Spangle kept finding after getting an easy time in front leading from the widest gate to improve his record to 11 wins from 19 starts. Well-backed Encountered stayed on nicely to finish a close second after a box-seat run. He was able to brush up a flat effort last month over 1,400m. Firming favourite Beauty Eternal ran on steadily from better than midfield to finish a length away in third. He'll certainly come on for this run. Circuit Stellar grudgingly gave way after tracking the eventual winner. He's as honest as the day is long. Money Catcher plodded over the final 100m after a prominent run wide without cover. He had an excuse. Senor Toba made headway to finish next best from towards the rear. It was a positive run. Beauty Joy ran on steadily to finish next best from behind midfield. He wasn't suited by the race tempo. Straight Arron got going late from near rear. He's crying out for a longer trip. Tourbillon Diamond found nothing from midfield. He continues to disappoint despite a stable change.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (88) - THE SHA TIN TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class G2 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 CALIFORNIA SPANGLE (E314) H Bowman Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 RUSSIAN EMPEROR (E198) L Hewitson A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 BEAUTY ETERNAL (H008) Z Purton Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 MONEY CATCHER (G171) A Badel When questioned regarding his riding, A Badel stated that with CALIFORNIA SPANGLE and CIRCUIT STELLAR expected to lead the event, he was asked to obtain a position with cover behind those two runners.

He said in the early stages when caught wide and to the outside of CIRCUIT STELLAR, he endeavoured to ride forward to cross CIRCUIT STELLAR, but when that runner was travelling well and held its position to his inside, he was obliged to race three wide and without cover.

He added that throughout the middle stages although he was aware the race was being run at a pace slower than standard, he was reluctant to push his mount forward as CIRCUIT STELLAR was travelling strongly and he felt this would have resulted in him having to make too much use of MONEY CATCHER to cross that runner.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Badel were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY JOY (E058) M Chadwick Jumped awkwardly.

In the early stages got its head up when racing ungenerously.

Horse No 6 SENOR TOBA (G103) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 STRAIGHT ARRON (G435) H Bentley A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
