Pins Prince took control passing the 200m after a rails run better than midfield for a second win under Zac Purton and first in this grade from his past three starts. Midori Burly ran on nicely to just take second after a patient ride third last. It was a pleasing debut performance in Hong Kong. Awesome Fluke closed well along the inside make it close for second after a rails run from behind midfield. It was a good debut run over an inadequate trip. Blue Marlin peaked on his run 50m out after claiming the lead 250m after a wide without cover run better than midfield from gate 12. He had an excuse. Rattan Kingdom ran on steadily near the outside to just miss the frame after a wide with cover run from behind midfield. It was a typical effort. Setanta made good ground late with one wider out to finish in the mix after biding his time four from the rear. He's naturally returning to form. Massive Action was stopping 150m after briefly hitting the front 300m out following a box seat run. He's better suited when allowed to bowl along in front.

Horse No 2 WINNER METHOD (E178) C L Chau Jumped only fairly and was crowded shortly after the start.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Horse No 3 NEVER TOO SOON (E434) K De Melo Crowded on jumping.

After the race, K De Melo stated that after obtaining a midfield positon, NEVER TOO SOON initially responded well to his riding, but over the concluding stages finished the race off in a one-paced manner although he was not too disappointed with the performance of the horse.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 BLUE MARLIN (H078) J McDonald Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 MASSIVE ACTION (E445) L Hewitson When questioned regarding his mount not leading, L Hewitson stated that his intention was to lead the event from an inside barrier.

He said after riding his mount along in the early stages and obtaining the lead, when GOLDEN DARCI improved to his outside and was travelling strongly, he elected to allow that runner to cross as he felt the pace of the event was being run inside of standard.

He said after being crossed by GOLDEN DARCI, the pace of the event eased slightly which then disadvantaged MASSIVE ACTION in the Home Straight as it took some time to respond to his riding once he obtained clear running.

After considering the early sectional times of the event, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Hewitson were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 8 GOLDEN SAMURAI (H024) C Y Ho Jumped awkwardly and from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the race, C Y Ho stated that after settling back in the field, his mount found the line fairly, but in his opinion, was looking to be stepped up in distance for its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
