Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied Samarkand travelled prominently, worked to the lead 50m out and held off post-time favourite Happy Angel to post his second win in a row despite rising in weight and distance. Happy Angel tracked the speed from gate four and made it close on the wire. He is always a chance over Happy Valley's 1,800m. Forever Glorious grudgingly gave way after clearing to the lead from his tricky barrier 1,400m out. He is yet to salute this season but has run well to fill the frame in three of his four starts. Pegasus General stayed on reasonably well after getting all the favours on the leader's back. His big weight was the difference in the end. Palace Pal ran on steadily without threatening the top four after his midfield trip one off the fence. It was another honest effort. Serangoon made some headway late near the outside after his rail run behind midfield. It was a shade better effort fourth up this term on his switch to Happy Valley and rise in distance. Running Ahead held his ground after his run on fence just worse than midfield. Early favourite Splendid Star had an excuse after getting posted wide without cover.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (244) - NGAU CHI WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 INVINCIBLE MISSILE (C037) J McDonald After the race, J McDonald stated that his mount came under pressure making the Home Turn and although held up for clear running for some distance after the 300 Metres finished the race off in a disappointing manner.

Trainer C Fownes advised that INVINCIBLE MISSILE had pleased his stable since its last start and said he would now look to experiment with the gear on INVINCIBLE MISSILE as it appeared to resent racing amongst other horses.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 PEGASUS GENERAL (G189) K C Leung On arrival at the Start, K C Leung expressed concern with his mount's action.

PEGASUS GENERAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who, after the necessary consultations, said the horse was suitable to race.

Jumped only fairly.

Near the 250 Metres was directed to the outside of HAPPY ANGEL and then SAMARKAND where it secured clear running approaching the 150 Metres.

Horse No 3 SAMARKAND (H070) C L Chau Near the 1500 Metres got its head up when being shifted behind FOREVER GLORIOUS to obtain cover and then raced keenly throughout the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 SERANGOON (H296) Y L Chung Slow to begin.

After the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of PALACE PAL to secure clear running.

Horse No 6 READY PLAYER ONE (G143) C Y Ho After the race, C Y Ho reported that his mount was not taken into the event when SPLENDID STAR did not improve and as a result was obliged to make a wide run on the Home Turn whereby READY PLAYER ONE then finished the race off only fairly thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 FORTUNE PRESIDENT (G054) M Chadwick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 9 HAPPY ANGEL (G133) K De Melo Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 VINCY (B213) A Hamelin From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 12 SPLENDID STAR (G026) K Teetan After the race, K Teetan stated that the horse, which was stepping up to Class 4, was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a result may not have run out tonight's 1800 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
