Race Seven : (295) - HIGH WEST HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 LIGHTNING BOLT (G130) C L Chau Leaving the 600 Metres brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 VIVA CHALEUR (G368) H Bowman Shortly after the start was crowded between BEAUTY GLORY and GOLDEN EMPIRE which shifted out before being corrected by its rider L Hewitson.
Horse No 3 LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385) M F Poon Bumped at the start.
Horse No 4 BON'S A PEARLA (G449) A Atzeni Near the 1150 Metres was steadied when crowded between A AMERIC TE SPECSO and GOLDEN EMPIRE, both of which shifted ground.
H Bowman (VIVA CHALEUR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1000 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BON'S A PEARLA, resulting in BON'S A PEARLA losing its rightful running and being checked.
H Bowman was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Thursday, 4 January 2024 at Happy Valley.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 1 having regard to the fact that VIVA CHALEUR was racing keenly at the time and was awkwardly placed on the heels of WATCH BUDDY and the consequences grade 2 and his good record.

Horse No 6 BEAUTY GLORY (E459) L Ferraris A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 GOLDEN EMPIRE (E490) L Hewitson Approaching the 200 Metres was briefly tightened between DENFIELD and LUCKY ARCHANGEL which shifted out and away from BEAUTY GLORY.
Horse No 8 A AMERIC TE SPECSO (H037) Z Purton After travelling a short distance was crowded between BON'S A PEARLA and LIGHTNING BOLT which shifted out and away from WATCH BUDDY.
Briefly held up near the 400 Metres.
After the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of BEAUTY GLORY to secure clear running and then raced tight between BEAUTY GLORY and STREET CONQUEROR for a short distance near the 150 Metres.
Horse No 9 DENFIELD (G471) B Avdulla A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 WATCH BUDDY (H185) A Badel Bumped shortly after the start.
From the 800 Metres raced wide and without cover.
On the Home Turn was bumped by ARMOUR EAGLE which shifted out to improve.

Late-fancied favourite Armour Eagle settled one off the rail behind midfield and responded nicely to hit the lead 100m out and record a third career win over the Valley's 1,200m. He relished a return to the city circuit after running all right in two of his three starts at Sha Tin. Bon's A Pearla jumped out of her skin late to snatch second from the rear of the field. The mare has caught the eye after switching to the Valley for her past two starts. Steet Conqueror lost second by a nose after sneaking through along the inside from midfield. It was a return to form from a better draw on his return to the Valley. Early favourite Watch Buddy did well to place fourth after a midfield run wide without cover. It was a good effort despite a rise in class following wins in two of his three prior starts. Viva Chaleur made good ground late down the outside after settling third last from a wide draw. It was another positive effort on trying the Valley's 1,200m for the first time after a placing last start on dirt. Lucky Archangel only plodded after a box-seat run. He appears to have reached his mark after winning three races on the trot.
