Recap by phillip woo

Watch Buddy got up in deep stretch to beat firming favourite Raging Blizzard despite being hampered 500m out, notching a third career win over the Valley 1,200m and second from his past three starts. He's in good form and can win again. Raging Blizzard found one too good after surging to the lead 150m out after rushing forward to chase the leader 600m out. It was solid effort trying the Valley for the first time. Sugar Sugar stayed on well for a placing after easing out of a speed duel to sit box seat. He's always a chance over the Valley 1,200m. Armour Eagle stayed on nicely for fourth after getting posted three wide with cover for the most part. It was another nice run carrying more weight following a win. Prince Of Porty gradually faded after clearing to the lead 750m out from a tricky gate. He's gone OK in each of his three runs this term but might be on or near his mark. Togepi ran on steadily to finish next best after a wide trip from midfield. It wasn't a bad effort despite a rise in class. Lucky Archangel will sleep well after a torrid run near the speed.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (350) - CHATER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 BON'S A PEARLA (G449) Z Purton Shortly after the start was crowded between STREET CONQUEROR which shifted out and ONLY U which raced tight to the inside of LUCKY ARCHANGEL.

Near the 450 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between GOLDEN SAMURAI and BEAUTY CHAMP (M Chadwick) which shifted out to commence a forward move.

M Chadwick was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 100 Metres was steadied when crowded between LUCKY ARCHANGEL which shifted out slightly when giving ground and GOLDEN SAMURAI (C Y Ho) which shifted in as it lay in.

C Y Ho was advised to exercise more care.

When questioned, Z Purton stated that after having been disappointed for clear running at the 450 Metres, BON'S A PEARLA was then obliged to improve between runners and, in his view, would be better suited when being able to make a run to the outside of the field.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, BON'S A PEARLA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 ARMOUR EAGLE (G093) A Atzeni Near the 600 Metres became unbalanced when crowded between LUCKY ARCHANGEL and WATCH BUDDY which shifted to the outside of SUGAR SUGAR.

In the middle stages raced keenly and at the 500 Metres was steadied away from RAGING BLIZZARD.

Horse No 3 LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385) M F Poon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 4 PRINCE OF PORTY (H009) B Avdulla When placed under pressure near the 200 Metres shifted in, resulting in its rider B Avdulla having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

GENERAL:

1.

The Stewards tonight inquired into the circumstances regarding the raceday treatment of AI ONE (Race 1), CONCERTO (Race 2) and ALLOY KING (Race 6) which were withdrawn from their respective race engagements at 10:01 am on 17.1.24 by order of the Stewards.

Evidence was taken from Mr K H Ting, the trainer of the said horses, Mr C M Lai, assistant trainer, and Mr K K Lee, head lad allocated to Mr Ting's stable.

After considering all of the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the three horses were inadvertently treated with supplements in the form of oral pastes at approximately 7:00 am this morning (raceday) despite there being a number of measures in place to ensure that the horses were not treated and consequently were withdrawn as such treatments were in breach of Trainers??Handbook Instruction 68.c.(i).

Mr Ting was fined the sum of $100,000 after pleading guilty to a breach of Rule 51 as he failed to fulfil his responsibility under the Rules by allowing the said horses to be treated in contravention of Trainers??Handbook Instruction 68.c.(i).

Before being allowed to race again, AI ONE, CONCERTO and ALLOY KING will all be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
