Recap by phillip woo

Following a prominent run on the fence, favourite Blissful Star led 200m out and fought back in the shadows of the post despite being headed near the 100m for a second career win and first on this surface. He was able to build on back-to-back placings on the dirt. Winning Steps worked to the lead near the 100m marker and was denied by a head bob following a handy run one off the fence. He seems to enjoy the 1,800m on either surface. Righteous Doctrine stayed on well for third after getting held up early in the straight following a patient ride two from the rear. He's an honest old-timer on this surface. Amazing Teens had his chance after a rail run in midfield but could only manage fourth without threatening the top three. He seems to go better at the Valley this term. Splendid Star kept on reasonably well after working hard three wide behind midfield the entire trip. Harry's Hero knocked up 100m out after circling the field to lead 1,050m out. He's still trying to find a bottom. Samarkand weakened tamely after a pace-stalking role. He's a better horse on turf.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (361) - SPOONBILL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 KIMBERLEY (H329) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that his instructions were to be positive from a wide barrier and in the early stages was crowded by SAMARKAND which shifted in.

He said he was then able to obtain a handy position in the early stages behind WINNING STEPS.

He added when the pace of the race increased in the middle stages when HARRY'S HERO went forward, KIMBERLEY was shuffled further back in the field where it continued to follow WINNING STEPS.

He said from near the 600 Metres his intention was to attempt to follow WINNING STEPS into the event, however, when that runner quickened better than his mount, he was unable to continue to follow WINNING STEPS due to his mount becoming one-paced at that point before finishing the race off fairly in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 SAMARKAND (H070) Y L Chung Shortly after the start shifted in and got its head up when being corrected by its rider.

Horse No 3 AMAZING TEENS (E449) A Atzeni Approaching the 250 Metres RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE shifted to the outside of WINNING STEPS to improve, resulting in AMAZING TEENS being taken wider.

Horse No 4 HARRY'S HERO (H332) H Bowman After the 1300 Metres commenced to race keenly and shifted out when being steadied away from KIMBERLEY.

When caught wide and without cover thereafter was allowed to stride forward from the 1200 Metres where it obtained the lead near the 1050 Metres.

Horse No 5 BLISSFUL STAR (E168) A Hamelin Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 WINNING STEPS (G420) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE (C197) L Hewitson Jumped only fairly and was bumped shortly after.

Approaching the 250 Metres was shifted out to secure clear running.

Horse No 9 READY PLAYER ONE (G143) B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly, was crowded shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

Near the 250 Metres was steadied away from SPLENDID STAR when taken wider by that runner.

Horse No 10 SPLENDID STAR (G026) K Teetan Near the 250 Metres was taken wider.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 11 YEE CHEONG WARRIOR (E025) M F Poon Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded by KIMBERLEY which was taken in by SAMARKAND which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider Apprentice Y L Chung.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, YEE CHEONG WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
