Recap by phillip woo

Eighteen Palms took control near the 100m marker after tracking the speed one off the fence for a second career win from 11 starts. He's always a chance over the Valley 1,650m. Tourbillon Prince kept on gamely to deny All Beauty for second after getting headed for the lead by Sixth Generation 600m out from gate four. It was another honest effort. All Beauty ran on nicely to nearly fill a place spot after a patient ride second last from gate 10. He's racing well without winning. Aestheticism ran on nicely near the inside for fourth after biding his time two from the rear. It was a good effort trying the Valley 1,650m for the first time. Lucky Eight kept on reasonably well after sitting near the speed three wide without cover. He's gone OK in his past two starts with a step up to 1,650m. Absolute Sunshine ran on steadily to finish next best after settling wide with cover trip in midfield. USS Constitution only plodded after a handy run one off the fence. Favourite Rocket Spade never landed a blow from midfield. D Star fluffed his lines after badly missing the kick.

Racing Incident Report

Horse No 1 EASON (G061) K C Leung Bumped at the start.

Horse No 2 ROCKET SPADE (G170) L Hewitson After the race, L Hewitson could offer no explanation for his mount's performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 TOURBILLON PRINCE (H122) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 LUCKY EIGHT (G204) M F Poon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 5 ALL BEAUTY (E355) A Badel From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Making the Home Turn was held up behind ROCKET SPADE before shifting to that runner's inside near the 300 Metres to secure clear running.

Horse No 6 LOYAL BABY (E130) A Hamelin Bumped at the start.

Near the 150 Metres shifted in abruptly, resulting in its rider A Hamelin having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 SIXTH GENERATION (G120) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

When giving ground near the 200 Metres raced tight to the inside of EIGHTEEN PALMS which lay in.

After the race, M Chadwick reported that with the early stages of the race run outside of standard time, SIXTH GENERATION raced keenly.

He said as a result he allowed SIXTH GENERATION to stride forward where it obtained the lead near the 600 Metres but failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 AESTHETICISM (H289) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 9 EIGHTEEN PALMS (H033) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 D STAR (G374) Y L Chung Prior to declaring weighed-in, the Stewards considered as to whether D STAR had been afforded a fair start.

After taking evidence from Apprentice Y L Chung and Starter, Mr A Speechley, the Stewards found that just prior to the start being effected D STAR turned its head to the outside and as a consequence was slow to begin.

As the Stewards were satisfied that D STAR turned its head to the outside just prior to the start being effected and was not being prevented from jumping by a starting gate handler, the horse had been afforded a fair start and was declared a runner.

Before being allowed to race again, D STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
