Recap by phillip woo

Packing Hurricane edged clear after hitting the front 150m out following a prominent run on the fence to ring up a fourth career win and third from five rides under Harry Bentley. Simply Maverick found one too smart after going to the front at the head of the straight following a pace-stalking run. It was a good run trying the Sha Tin 1,800m for the first time. The Best Peach was doing his best work late to just miss second after making his run four back on the fence. He's racing well. Enigma stayed on well for fourth after peeling four wide coming to the final bend from behind midfield. He's shown natural improvement in his five local starts. Gallant Hero came from near last to finish next best. It was a typical performance at this level. Favourite Simple Hedge ran on without threatening after a wide trip towards the rear. It was a below par performance after placing in three prior starts. Devildom made some headway late from the rear of the field. Woodfire Bro was a non-factor after jumping awkwardly and nearly dislodging his rider.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (435) - TVB MISS HONG KONG PAGEANT HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1800Meters

Horse No 2 MOMENTS IN TIME (H474) L Ferraris Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

Horse No 3 WOODFIRE BRO (G115) K C Leung When questioned, K C Leung stated that on jumping his mount blundered badly and as a result he and WOODFIRE BRO became badly unbalanced and lost ground.

He said after this incident WOODFIRE BRO did not travel well throughout the event and when he was concerned that there may be something amiss with his mount in the Home Straight, he did not ride it out to the finish when not in a competitive position.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, WOODFIRE BRO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

Horse No 4 SIMPLE HEDGE (H237) Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start.

After the race, Z Purton stated that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover until near the 700 Metres and this was the only explanation he could offer for SIMPLE HEDGE not finishing the race off strongly in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 PACKING HURRICANE (H137) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 SIMPLY MAVERICK (H346) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 HAKKA RADIANCE (J105) B Thompson Bumped shortly after the start.

After the race, B Thompson reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed that if his mount commenced well, to endeavour to take a more forward position than it had previously raced in as it had been slow to begin in its previous race starts.

Horse No 11 GALLANT HERO (E480) A Badel From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
