Recap by phillip woo

Old-timer Smart Leader reeled in Commanding Missile 60m out after a rails run from midfield for a fourth career win at his 72nd start. Commanding Missile found one too good after working to the lead 200m out after a prominent run with cover. It was a return to form following a downgrade with the hood and blinkers coming off. Good View Glory ran on nicely for third after a patient ride fourth last from a wide draw. It was a much-improved effort on three other starts last term. Punted late Timestorm weaved a run late for fourth after biding his time one from the rear. He had been disappointing. Rattan World made headway late down the outside for fifth after making his run at the rear from gate 12. He's one to keep safe if he can draw a proper gate over this course and distance. Sweet Diamond had nothing left to offer over the last 100m after a pace-stalking run from gate 14. He had an excuse. Favourite Noble One made only a mild bid after a rails run from behind midfield following a slow start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (542) - CHUNG CHI ALUMNI HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 E GLORY (H304) K C Leung For a short distance approaching the 400 Metres was held up for clear running behind NOBLE ONE and shifted to that runner's inside to improve.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 NOBLE ONE (G278) Z Purton Jumped only fairly.

After the race, Z Purton could offer no excuse for his mount's failure to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

Horse No 3 RATTAN WORLD (G384) A Hamelin Crowded on jumping and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 4 E TALENT (H310) K H Chan Shortly after the start was hampered when taken out by E GLORY.

Horse No 5 HO HO STAR (H291) M Chadwick Jumped awkwardly and then blundered shortly after the start.

Near the 950 Metres was briefly crowded by THE GOOD DEAL which shifted in and then was awkwardly placed on the heels of E GLORY for some distance thereafter.

Passing the 50 Metres was shifted to the outside of THE GOOD DEAL to continue into clear running.

Horse No 6 SMART LEADER (B456) K De Melo Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 THE GOOD DEAL (G025) L Ferraris From the 850 Metres raced wide and without cover.

Horse No 9 COMMANDING MISSILE (G210) C L Chau When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, C L Chau stated that when his mount travelled strongly after the 400 Metres he was reluctant to place it under pressure as COMMANDING MISSILE had not finished its races off at its previous race starts.

He stated that between the 400 Metres and the 250 Metres as COMMANDING MISSILE continued to travel strongly into the event, he held his mount together to encourage it to improve and approaching the 250 Metres he then commenced to ride his mount along when SMART LEADER improved to his outside.

He added COMMANDING MISSILE responded reasonably well to his riding, however, he was unable to prevent the winner SMART LEADER improving past his mount.

The Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Chau were reasonable in the circumstances.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 DAY DAY RICH (D231) L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, DAY DAY RICH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 14 GREAT DAYS (H119) K Teetan In the early stages raced keenly and when being shifted behind DAY DAY RICH approaching the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of that runner.

After the 150 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of SWEET DIAMOND which shifted out.
