Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Flaming Rabbit kept up a strong gallop after jumping clearly on top from the widest draw in the seven horse field for a second local win at his 13th start. It was a return to form following a gear change. The Golden Scenery was closing with every stride for second after a prominent run on the fence. It was good run carrying top weight. Oddson favourite Mugen came from near last to just miss second prize money. He was suited by the pace and was trying a longer 1,600m for the first time. All For St Paul's weakened to finish a distant fourth after a pace-stalking run. He's at his best when allowed to bowl along in front. Running Glory came from last to finish next best. It was a shade better effort at his third run following a stable change. Superb Boy was disappointing when asked for an effort following a box seat run. He didn't appear to handle the rise in trip. Rising From Ashes was retreating coming to the final bend after a midfield run. He's struggled six times after winning his first two across both tracks this term.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (543) - UNITED ALUMNI HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 THE GOLDEN SCENERY (E379) B Avdulla For some distance approaching the 1100 Metres raced tight to the inside of SUPERB BOY which initially raced in restricted room to the inside of ALL FOR ST PAUL'S.

At the 1100 Metres SUPERB BOY (A Badel) shifted in when not quite clear of THE GOLDEN SCENERY, resulting in THE GOLDEN SCENERY having to steady to avoid the heels of SUPERB BOY.

A Badel was severely reprimanded.

Shifted out after the 1100 Metres and made contact with RISING FROM ASHES for some distance thereafter.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 ALL FOR ST PAUL'S (C517) M F Poon Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and was corrected by its rider.

Horse No 3 RUNNING GLORY (G010) B Thompson Shortly after the start was crowded between RISING FROM ASHES and ALL FOR ST PAUL'S which shifted in as it was being corrected by its rider M F Poon.

Horse No 4 MUGEN (H338) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that his instructions were to endeavour to have MUGEN settle in the early stages as it was stepping up to 1600 Metres for the first time.

He stated that MUGEN jumped only fairly and he allowed the horse to settle towards the rear of the field where it travelled comfortably.

He added that from the 600 Metres he commenced to allow MUGEN to improve into the event and was able to secure clear running after the 500 Metres.

He further stated that MUGEN initially responded to his riding but after improving to the outside of THE GOLDEN SCENERY near the 200 Metres finished the race off in a one-paced manner and, in his opinion, may not have run out a strong 1600 Metres.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued such instructions on the basis that MUGEN had raced a little keenly after being ridden along in the early stages at its last start and the fact that it was stepping up to 1600 Metres.

Mr Ng expressed satisfaction with the manner in which H Bowman rode the horse today and agreed with Jockey Bowman that MUGEN may not have run out a strong 1600 Metres and his intention would be to drop it back in distance for its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 FLAMING RABBIT (H257) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 RISING FROM ASHES (G209) H T Mo Crowded on jumping.

After the 1100 Metres THE GOLDEN SCENERY shifted to the outside of SUPERB BOY, resulting in RISING FROM ASHES being taken wider and SUPERB BOY and RISING FROM ASHES making contact for some distance thereafter.

Approaching the 400 Metres was steadied away from MUGEN which shifted out and away from THE GOLDEN SCENERY.

Horse No 7 SUPERB BOY (G335) A Badel After the race, A Badel stated that his mount raced a little keenly in the early stages but failed to run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
