Recap by phillip woo

Rank outsider Forever Folks dashed well along the inside after travelling in fourth last to grab victory in the closing stages. He did produce a better run on his last start on the turf and did get the pace run to suit. Galvanic ran on nicely for second after settling on the rail behind midfield. He relished the good pace at his first start on the surface following a nice win two runs ago over the Valley 1,650m. Triumphant Warrior peaked on his run 50m out after working to the lead 250m out. It was a good effort trying the mile trip after placing in one of two sprints on this surface. Viva Hunter stayed on well for fourth after making his run in midfield. He's run well in two of three starts on this surface following a downgrade. Starship Eighty got going late near the inside to finish next best after biding his time one from the rear. It was another honest effort. Panda Legend produced a grinding effort from midfield. He's better on the turf. Early favourite Fast Victory produced a one-paced effort from behind midfield. Post-time favourite Mission Bravo cost himself any chance of winning after jumping slowly.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (557) - STONECUTTERS ISLAND HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 HAKKA RADIANCE (J105) L Hewitson Approaching the 700 Metres was steadied to avoid CORDYCEPS ONE (Apprentice Y L Chung) which shifted out to improve to the outside of I KEEP WINNING.

Apprentice Chung was advised to exercise more care.

Approaching the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind MAYHEM and near the 200 Metres bumped with PANDA LEGEND.

Horse No 2 GALVANIC (H147) E C W Wong Making the Home Turn raced tight between MAYHEM and PANDA LEGEND and then after the 400 Metres was shifted to the outside of MAYHEM to secure clear running.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 VIVA HUNTER (E369) M F Poon Bumped at the start.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 4 I KEEP WINNING (H400) K H Chan Bumped at the start.

The performance of I KEEP WINNING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

As this was the second consecutive occasion that I KEEP WINNING had finished tailed out, the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Horse No 5 MISSION BRAVO (E383) L Ferraris When questioned, L Ferraris stated that his mount was reluctant to jump from the starting gates and as a result missed the start.

He said after settling back in the field, he was obliged to make use of MISSION BRAVO throughout the early and middle stages to hold his position.

He added although MISSION BRAVO raced tight to the inside of THE CONCENTRATION near the 200 Metres, it finished the race off in a disappointing manner.

Assistant Trainer Y H Wong advised that MISSION BRAVO had pleased the stable coming into the event and that the stable was not able to offer any reason as to why the horse was slow to begin at its recent race starts.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The barrier manners and performance of MISSION BRAVO were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, MISSION BRAVO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 PANDA LEGEND (H002) K De Melo Near the 200 Metres was bumped by HAKKA RADIANCE which shifted to the inside of MAYHEM.

Horse No 7 CORDYCEPS ONE (E107) Y L Chung After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages to hold a forward position.

He said in addition he was also forced to make a run three wide from the 700 Metres when positioned behind I KEEP WINNING and THE CONCENTRATION due to those runners not improving into the race and as a result CORDYCEPS ONE was left vulnerable late in the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 FAST VICTORY (H393) H Bowman Held up for clear running near the 450 Metres.

Horse No 9 TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR (H430) Z Purton Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 700 Metres was shifted to the outside of MAYHEM and then raced wide and without cover thereafter.

Horse No 10 MAYHEM (H226) M L Yeung Near the 700 Metres was steadied to avoid HAKKA RADIANCE.

Horse No 11 STARSHIP EIGHTY (H022) B Avdulla From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 12 FOREVER FOLKS (G463) B Thompson Jumped only fairly and then was crowded shortly after the start when GALVANIC shifted out.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 14 THE CONCENTRATION (H465) H T Mo When giving ground approaching the 200 Metres was steadied when crowded between MISSION BRAVO and STARSHIP EIGHTY which shifted in slightly.

After the race, H T Mo reported that from the inside barrier carrying a light weight of 117 lbs, he was instructed to take advantage of those two factors and hold a forward position.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions and the reasons as to why he issued such instructions.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
