Recap by phillip woo

Smokey Bear got up by a whisker after his wide trip behind midfield to win a three-horse photo. He placed over 1,200m at Happy Valley two starts ago and relished the switch in surfaces because he was a pre-import Polytrack winner. Cool Blue just failed to get up down the outside after a patient ride third last from gate 12. He proved his rallying laststart fourth on this surface was not a fluke. Well-backed Colourful Prince was swamped in the shadows of the post after reclaiming the lead he had lost 700m from home with 300m remaining. It was a better effort in Class Four under a seven-pound claimer, but his early workload took its toll. Favourite Shining Fortune ran on reasonably well along the inside to just miss the placings. It was another honest effort carrying top weight. Sergeant Pepper was yielding ground over the final 100m after rushing forward wide on the course to lead 700m out. Vamos came from near last to finish next best. He is itching for both a downgrade and a return to the turf. Hurry Hurry Rich went amiss 550m from the finish. Stewards withdrew Noble One on veterinary advice.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (647) - PIPER'S HILL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

After arriving at the Start, C Y Ho expressed concern regarding the action of NOBLE ONE.

NOBLE ONE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was not suitable to race due to it being lame in the right front and left hind legs.

Acting on this advice, NOBLE ONE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

LUCKY BANNER knuckled over on jumping, became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped LIFE IS GOOD.

VAMOS was slow to begin and was crowded between CALL ME TEDDY and COLOURFUL PRINCE, both of which shifted ground slightly.

SERGEANT PEPPER also knuckled over on jumping.

SMOKEY BEAR jumped only fairly.

From the outside barrier, COOL BLUE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 700 Metres, LIFE IS GOOD, which was racing keenly, was steadied away from COLOURFUL PRINCE.

Near the 650 Metres, LUCKY BANNER, which lay in throughout the event, was checked to avoid HURRY HURRY RICH as that runner commenced to give ground quickly, resulting in LUCKY BANNER shifting in and crowding VAMOS.

Near the 500 Metres, HURRY HURRY RICH went amiss and fell, resulting in its rider, C L Chau, being dislodged.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HURRY HURRY RICH was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and had bled from both nostrils.

Subsequently C L Chau was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.

VAMOS was held up making the Home Turn.

SHINING FORTUNE was also held up making the Home Turn and did not obtain clear running until near the 300 Metres.

When questioned regarding MASTER OF ALL being ridden in a forward position, M F Poon stated that his mount settled forward in a barrier trial on 25 April 2023 where it performed well and therefore his instructions tonight from a wide barrier were to take up a forward position.

After the race, S De Sousa (CALL ME TEDDY) reported that his mount did not travel well at any stage of the event and after being crowded for room making the Home Turn to the inside of MASTER OF ALL, CALL ME TEDDY gave ground under riding in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of CALL ME TEDDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of CALL ME TEDDY was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, CALL ME TEDDY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY BANNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SHINING FORTUNE, SMOKEY BEAR and COOL BLUE were sent for sampling.

Samples were also taken from HURRY HURRY RICH.
