Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Sweet Briar just held off Raging Blizzard over the last 100m after hitting the front 150m out following a speed-chasing run one off the rail in third to make it back-toback wins from four starts. Newcomer Raging Blizzard came to win the race 100m out from midfield but could not get by the winner. It was a solid effort and he will be winning races in no time. Happy Soul ran on nicely to place from midfield. He is honest but it was his best performance at Sha Tin. Cheer For South gradually faded after tracking the leader from gate six. He is not far off a bottom. Commanding Missile ran on steadily to finish next best after a prominent run on the fence. He could not lift carrying a few pounds more following a win. Punted late, Super Winner had little left in the tank near the 100m after dictating the run from gate 10. He is not easy to get right.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (812) - THE CHAN TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters

SUPER WINNER, which had its left front plate adjusted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

MAGIC TRAVELLER was slow to begin and then was crowded between COMMANDING MISSILE and MASTER OF ALL, both of which shifted ground.

GOOD BOY was slow to begin and then was steadied to avoid the heels of SUPER WINNER which shifted in.

GOOD BOY was then shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages.

SOARING PENGSHAN jumped only fairly and then from a wide barrier was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 550 Metres, GOOD BOY commenced to race fiercely and as a result was checked to avoid JOY FOR YOU.

GOOD BOY then shifted in abruptly when it continued to race fiercely, crowding the running of SOARING PENGSHAN which was also checked.

The Stewards found that the racing manners of GOOD BOY were the reason for the incident occurring.

Trainer P C Ng was advised that GOOD BOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial before being permitted to race again and that he must engage a senior rider to ride GOOD BOY in both its barrier trials and future race starts.

A veterinary inspection of GOOD BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

JOY FOR YOU lost its right hind plate near the 500 Metres.

Near the 300 Metres, COMMANDING MISSILE was shifted to the outside of SWEET BRIAR to continue into clear running and as a result bumped RAGING BLIZZARD.

Near the 200 Metres, COMMANDING MISSILE raced in restricted room between RAGING BLIZZARD and HAPPY SOUL which shifted out to improve.

Prior to declaring weighed-in, Z Purton, the rider of RAGING BLIZZARD, second placegetter, and Trainer J Size viewed the official videos to ascertain if there were grounds for a protest/objection against SWEET BRIAR being declared the winner due to both runners brushing near the 75 Metres.

When Jockey Purton and Mr Size declined to lodge a protest/objection and the Stewards were satisfied that there were not sufficient grounds having regard to the manner in which both horses finished the race off, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HAPPY SOUL at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY SOUL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of CAPE BRETON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SWEET BRIAR and RAGING BLIZZARD were sent for sampling.
