Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Denfield rushed forward to lead from gate nine and just prevailed for his second win from his past three starts. He has got the tools to hold his own in a higher grade. Golden Link made it close on the wire after getting all the favours in the box seat. He was fitter following his OK run over 1,400m, and his return to Happy Valley nearly worked the oracle. High Percentage made his initial run three wide with cover from worse than midfield and dashed nicely near the outside to make it close on the wire. He improved on his flat seventh last month. Flaming Eagle stayed on to be the next best after his one-out, one-back run. He produces a positive run now and then. Speedstar held his ground after his handy run wide without cover. It was another honest effort. Leslie ran on down the outside without threatening the placegetters. It was an OK performance carrying the top weight from the widest draw for his new trainer, Michael Chang Chun-wai. Prime Mortar made some ground late. He needed the run but is in the right class again. Hearty Wish tippy toed in the latter stages after his pace-stalking run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (71) - TAI SHUE WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 DENFIELD (G471) Z Purton Shifted in at the start and then was bumped.

When questioned regarding DENFIELD leading the event, Z Purton stated that whilst he was asked to take up a forward position on DENFIELD, he was not specifically asked to lead.

He stated that when his mount commenced reasonably well, he elected to continue forward and hold the lead, particularly as there was no identified leader in the race.

Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions issued.

Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 LESLIE (E471) A Hamelin From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 PRIME MORTAR (G328) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

Over-raced in the early stages.

Horse No 4 COMPASSION SUPER (G283) H Bowman Was held up for clear running from the 550 Metres behind GOLDEN LINK and at the 400 Metres was checked away from that horse.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 GOLDEN LINK (D222) K C Leung When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on GOLDEN LINK, K C Leung explained that his instructions were to find cover in behind the lead.

He said whilst GOLDEN LINK jumped well this evening, he was mindful that his instructions were to find cover and for this reason he allowed DENFIELD to cross GOLDEN LINK to comply with his instructions.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued.

Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 NINJA DERBY (H339) L Currie Jumped awkwardly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 HIGH PERCENTAGE (G413) L Hewitson Jumped only fairly and then was badly crowded shortly after the start.

Horse No 8 HEARTY WISH (E343) H Bentley When giving ground near the 200 Metres lay in and brushed FLAMING EAGLE.

Horse No 10 FLAMING EAGLE (G108) K Teetan Near the 1100 Metres was steadied to avoid GOLDEN LINK (K C Leung) which shifted in when not quite clear.

K C Leung was advised to exercise more care.

Was brushed near the 200 Metres.

Horse No 11 AUGUST MOON (D409) A Atzeni Was bumped at the start and became unbalanced.

Near the 400 Metres endeavoured to shift to the outside of FLAMING EAGLE to obtain clear running.

When being shifted to the outside of FLAMING EAGLE, FLAMING EAGLE became awkwardly placed close to HEARTY WISH and was steadied by its rider which resulted in AUGUST MOON being positioned close to the heels of that runner.

A short distance later, HIGH PERCENTAGE (L Hewitson) improved to the outside of AUGUST MOON which then resulted in AUGUST MOON having to be checked.

L Hewitson was advised to exercise more care and provide comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.

Was noted to have lost its right hind plate after the race.

Horse No 12 SPEEDSTAR (G181) K De Melo Was bumped at the start.
