Race Five : (246) - CHOI WAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters
Horse No 3 CALIFORNIA DEEPLY (G451) L Ferraris Made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping and lost ground.
Horse No 4 EXPLOSIVE WITNESS (B001) J McDonald Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 CHEVAL VALIANT (E336) K De Melo Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out fully when positioned close to HAPPY UNITED as that runner shifted in.
After the race, K De Melo stated that with the strong early pace he was unable to lead and as a consequence settled in behind the early leader FORTUNE WARRIOR.
He said from the 500 Metres he was obliged to race wide and without cover when taken out by HARMONY N BLESSED, however, he was not too disappointed with his mount's finishing effort in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have blood in its mouth.

Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 HUMBLE STAR (H125) Z Purton Withdrawn on 12.12.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front tendon injury).
Before being allowed to race again, HUMBLE STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Explosive Witness sustained his move from behind midfield to win going away by two and a quarter lengths. It was his sixth success, but his first victory since the Group Three Bauhinia Sprint on New Year's Day in 2021. He had been knocking on the door this season. Punted late, Fortune Warrior grudgingly gave way after leading from gate four and slipping two lengths clear rounding the final bend. He relished his return to the course and distance of his November 8 win. Firming late in betting, Happy United travelled one off the fence better than midfield and ran out steadily to miss second by a neck. It was a good run in a higher grade following his last-start success. Harmony N Blessed lost a placing late after chasing the leader on the rail. He rarely produces a bad run over Happy Valley's 1,000m. Favourite Atomic Energy settled behind midfield and hit his stride to just miss the frame. He ran OK after resuming last month with a runner-up result. Cheval Valiant weakened to finish the next best after chasing the speed wide without cover. He prefers Sha Tin. California Deeply produced only a mild bid from the rear.
