Recap by phillip woo

Dublin Star kept kicking to hold off Nordic Combined after hitting the lead near the 200m following a prominent run on the fence for an upset win. It's been a while between drinks for the seven-year-old but was down in class. Nordic Combined came from last near the inside after a sluggish start to finish a clear-cut second. He appreciated the step up in distance after closing late for sixth over 1,200m last start. Apex Top stayed on nicely for third after settling effective in the one-one from gate 10. He ran well carrying more weight following a win. Perfect Peach was doing his best work late for fourth after getting blocked for a run until the 200m travelling two from the rear. He has the tools to break through shortly in this grade. Star Of Glory kept on all right after a pace-stalking run. Punted late Master Of Luck ran on without threatening travelling three from the rear. He just hasn't been able to offset big weights this term. Fortune Master made some ground after a wide trip from behind midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (251) - LUKFOOK JEWELLERY HEXICON HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 BAEBAE TSOI (E116) E C W Wong Shortly after the start was bumped by APEX TOP which shifted in, resulting in BAEBAE TSOI becoming unbalanced.

Then despite being ridden along in the early stages was unable to hold a more forward position.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 2 MASTER OF LUCK (G276) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.

Near the 900 Metres commenced to race keenly, improved to the inside of ALL IS READY and then was steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of ALL IS READY.

After the 150 Metres was hampered when it shifted out and away from ALL IS READY when that runner shifted out.

Horse No 3 PERFECT PEACH (E488) Y L Chung Jumped only fairly.

Near the 300 Metres was directed to the inside of APEX TOP to secure clear running.

Horse No 4 DUBLIN STAR (C436) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 NORDIC COMBINED (G015) J McDonald Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 YOO YOO KNIGHT (H053) C L Chau Lay out rounding the Home Turn and in the Home Straight.

After the race, C L Chau reported that his instructions were to hold a midfield position, but after jumping awkwardly he was obliged to settle further back in the field in order to obtain cover.

Horse No 9 BEAT HOLLOW (G414) L Hewitson After the race, L Hewitson reported that his mount gave ground after leading the event and he could offer no explanation for its disappointing performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 ALL IS READY (G042) Z Purton When questioned regarding his riding and the degree of vigour he used on the horse in the Home Straight, Z Purton stated that he was asked to ride ALL IS READY where comfortable and to ensure ALL IS READY was balanced up in the Home Straight before he placed it under full pressure and to limit his whip use as ALL IS READY appeared to resent the whip previously.

He stated that as a consequence in accordance with his instructions, after entering the Home Straight he ensured that ALL IS READY was balanced when it improved to the outside of BAEBAE TSOI.

He said near the 300 Metres ALL IS READY commenced to lay in and as he had his whip in his left hand and being mindful of his instructions, he continued to encourage ALL IS READY into the race under hands and heels riding.

He added that after the 300 Metres he was reluctant to pull his whip through to his right hand as ALL IS READY continued to lay in and after being hampered near the 150 Metres when APEX TOP shifted out, ALL IS READY did not finish the race off and gave ground thereafter.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued and stated that he had asked Jockey Purton to limit the whip use as at its previous race start on 3 December 2023, in his opinion, ALL IS READY may not have appreciated being struck with the whip in the Home Straight.

The Stewards advised Jockey Purton that, wherever possible, he should ensure that he places the appropriate degree of vigour on his mounts and utilise all available methods to encourage his mounts to finish in the best possible placing in the field.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 FORTUNE MASTER (D371) K De Melo Near the 150 Metres was hampered and taken out slightly by MASTER OF LUCK.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 STAR OF GLORY (E316) A Atzeni Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 8 SOARING TOWER (D500) A Badel Was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers who said the horse was lame in its right front leg and as such was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, SOARING TOWER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, SOARING TOWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.
