Recap by phillip woo

After making steady progress from midfield 800m out, outsider Courier Magic took control near the 100m marker and kept on for a first win at his eighth start. He relished the addition of blinkers. Specked late, Master Of Luck dashed nicely down the outside to edge Big Two after making his run at the rear from gate 12. He's shown progress following a stable change. Big Two settled in the box seat and did everything right but found a couple too good after surging to the lead 200m out. He rarely produces a bad run over the Valley 1,650m. Regency Happy Star ran on steadily near the inside for fourth after settling one off the fence behind midfield. It was a return to form. Medic Elite made some ground to finish next best after making his run five back on the fence. The big weight took its toll following a win. Charming Steed weakened over the last 100m after dictating the run from gate eight. He seems to prefer the dirt nowadays. Hang's Choice ran on without threatening after he was ridden patiently from a wide draw. Brilliant Pioneer faded after a prominent run. He continues to disappoint.

When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer J Richards stated that COURIER MAGIC had a tendency to race keenly in its track work and as a result he had been reluctant to apply blinkers to the horse.

He said as COURIER MAGIC had gained race experience, he elected to apply blinkers to the horse tonight and this was the reason for racing in a more competitive manner.

Sent for sampling post-race.

He said in the middle stages BAYVIEW STAR commenced to make a respiratory noise and when it then shortened stride near the 600 Metres he eased his mount down from the event when not in a competitive position.

Trainer W K Mo was advised that BAYVIEW STAR, which finished tailed out, will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
