Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Winning Gold bolted clear after a ducking-and-weaving run to lead 200m out from behind midfield on the fence for a first win at his sixth start. Top Peak stayed on well for second after a rails run from midfield. He did have excuses in three consecutive runs after placing on debut. Post-time favourite Young Horizon had his chance but wasn't good enough after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He just finds things too tough in this grade. Daring Pursuit was held up for a majority of the straight and should have finished much closer after a patient ride out back from gate 10. Smart Folks kept on all right after tracking the leader Miu Fa Fa from gate 13. It was a much better effort on his past four starts. Great Spirit kept on reasonably well to finish next best after a wide trip from behind midfield with a step up to 1,400m. Newcomer Miu Fa Fa weakened over the last 100m after clearing to the lead from gate 12. Beauty Glory was badly held up for most the straight after a box-seat run. He has had excuses in Class Four defeats.

He added BEAUTY GLORY remained badly held up for clear running behind SMART FOLKS until the finish of the event.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of SMART FOLKS after the 150 Metres, Apprentice Chung stated that his focus had been on improving to the outside of SMART FOLKS and he had not observed a run being available to the inside of that runner, but had expressed some reservations as to whether his mount would have been able to take advantage of that position.
